Designer Spotlight: Alice McCall

Posted on May 14, 2015

Hi Guys!

Many moons ago, I decided it would be nice to put together a monthly ‘Designer Spotlight’ post where I could tell you all about my latest designer covetings – but despite my good intentions, it didn’t really end up happening regularly. I have so many gorgeous designer pieces on my fantasy wish list right now though, so I’ve decided to start the series again! The most amazing designer Alice McCall has recently been brought to my attention so I thought I’d take the opportunity today to tell you a bit about her and why I love her clothing so much.

Alice McCall’s pieces are just stunning and instantly recognisable – I love how she uses striking organic patterns and prints throughout her collections, with bold block colours and black linear graphic details. McCall has come a long way from originally selling her one-off silk pieces at London markets, and after quickly establishing a fan base her first line was born in 2004, with her fashion label being launched at Australian Fashion Week.

Over the past 10 years she has also collaborated with some major retailers including Topshop and Target. My favourite collaboration was definitely with Nasty Gal (this is also one of my all time favourite stores) I’ve Included the amazing green ‘Quartz’ dress from Nasty Gal in the image above.

‘Alice McCall’s signature style takes its inspiration from bohemian, folky subcultures and the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle – resulting in daringly girlish silhouettes detailed with frills, scalloping, and lots of striking colour.’ Fun and playful is definitely the name of the game here, and I love how she incorporates so much unique detail and craftsmanship into her pieces, keeping them edgy yet very feminine.

It’s definitely my goal to own one of her dresses one day when my budget allows it! I’d love to hear what you think of Alice McCall’s designs and who your favourite designers are?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

It’s Norwich Fashion Week!

Posted on March 8, 2015

Hi Guys!

Forget London Fashion Week, it’s now Norwich Fashion Week!! 😀

The fun kicked off on Thursday evening with the opening Retailers catwalk show, where local companies sent the best of what they had to offer down the catwalk. I was very excited to have VIP tickets and hopped along to the show with my BFF Laura. In the VIP area an amazing thing happened, I tried a glass of wine and I ACTUALLY LIKED IT. The bar were serving coffee based alcoholic drinks, but I don’t like coffee, so I reluctantly went for a wine, knowing I wouldn’t like it either, but then some sort of magic happened and I drank the whole glass without grimacing! It was a revelation! I ed the lovely guys at Grey Seal Coffee who kindly let me know the wine was Lynton White from local Mark Lynton, so I need to track it down now.

Anyway I digress, the show was fantastic as expected, and it was great to see a mixture of bigger and smaller companies represented on the catwalk. I’ve included some of my favourite looks below –

house-of-fraser-mens-show

The boys all looked fabulous, of course. I loved the sleek suits from House of Fraser.

I just knew I’d love what House of Fraser had to offer for the ladies too – and I did! There were some fantastic floral prints coming down the catwalk, and the most beautiful pleated skirt.

jarrolds-women

And lastly Jarrold, I loved all of their looks, with lots of spring pastels, clashing prints and fun accessories – check out that holo clutch guys. I was really impressed.

…Fast forward to this afternoon (Sunday, in case you’re reading this later) I headed into the city again with Laura for the second scheduled show – the Vintage Show held at Norwich Puppet Theatre. The Puppet Theatre was a bit harder to find – thank God for google maps – but we got there in the end, and it was a complete contrast to the previous retailers venue. Hosted in a converted church, the Puppet Theatre was the perfect setting for the Vintage Show, we sat on an old style theatre, watching the models from the front row. I loved the intimate yet relaxed atmosphere, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the show… but we’re a bit surprised by the ending though!

Here are a few of my favourite looks and collections –

the-frock-spot-wedding-dresses

The Frock Spot showcased some amazing vintage wedding dresses – my favourite was the tea length satin number on the far right – beautiful!

retreat-vintage-dress

I also fell in love with this exquisite 1950’s evening dress from Retreat Vintage. It was covered in the most beautiful intricate beading.

I should also mention that the Vintage Show had an oriental theme, there were some fantastic oriental style looks on show.

proudlock-and-harry-underwear

And there were undies! I loved the contrast of lace and rubber – very 50 shades! I’d never heard of Proudlock & Harry before, but they’re a boutique lingerie store on London Street, I’ll definitely be giving them a visit!

burlesque-dancer

And the show ended (rather surprisingly) with a burlesque dancer. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t quite prepared for her. She was literally right in front of me, gyrating and spinning and she was just AMAZING. I was mesmerised! (She had some nice undies on too!) I’m afraid I don’t have the name of this burlesque beauty but I’ll add her link when I find out!

So far we’ve had a fantastic time, there are two more main shows to come next week so keep your eyes peeled for another post! xxx

Fashion Resolutions & My Favourite Style Bloggers

Posted on February 16, 2015

Hi Guys!

The lovely guys at  recently got in touch asking me if I’d like to collaborate and put a post together about my fashion resolutions – which sounded like and excellent idea and also reminded me that I totally forgot to finish off my New Year’s Resolutions post – oops!

Anyway, this is now the perfect opportunity to tell you about one of my top resolutions, which is to be more AWESOME when it comes to the clothes I wear, and just how I look in general. I often have high hopes and good intentions when it comes to expanding my fashion horizons, but usually take the lazy girls option and end up in a cardigan and leggings.

I want to be more experimental in my makeup as well as outfits, being louder, brighter and definitely more fun! At the moment I just feel like I’m so busy with my multiple jobs, little boy, family life and looking after the house (or trying to) and everything else that comes along day to day that I just don’t have the time to experiment with looks. My intention is to definitely make time now though.

Ok so these are the things I really want to incorperate into my look this year –

  • Bright and vibrant colours – well more of them, more patterns and more FUN.
  • Sequins. You can never have enough sequins.
  • Fun and interesting textures.
  • Holographic and metallic finishes. Again more of them, I only have holo on shoes and bags at the moment but I need it on clothes too!

isolatedheroes

I’m currently most experimental when it comes to accessories, but that’s where it stops for me. Being size too, I often find it quite hard to find clothing that’s a bit different and crazy. I have though, recently discovered an AMAZING site –  who create fantabulous clothing in sizes up to a UK 24 – how awesome is that! Their clothing is not cheap by anyones means, but everything is hand made with love at their studio in Scotland, so I think the prices are pretty reasonable really. I have just ordered myself a little something so I’ll be telling you all about it when it arrives! (The amazing ‘Believe’ sequin jacket is featured in the image above – this is so on my wish list!)

At this point I also wanted to include mention of some of my absolute favourite fashion and style bloggers. These are ladies I really look up to when it comes to style and creativity –

thatssoyesterdaynew

First is Laura from . Laura is absolutely lovely, and rocks the most fantastic outfits and rainbow coloured hair – I need her lips dress!

fashonicidenew

Next is Lima from . Lima is my holo buddy, whenever anything shiny catches my eye I let her know! I love Lima’s experimental makeup skills and amazing sense of style 🙂

fashionhayleynew

And lastly Hayley from . I haven’t actually spoke to Hayley before, but I often read her blog and I’m constantly in awe of her amazingly colourful and out there looks, and I love that she isn’t afraid to push boundaries when it comes to style.

I’ve definitely started on the road to being more adventurous, apart from my Isolated Heroes order I’ve also just purchases an amazing colourful new wig – which will be on the blog shortly. Hopefully this is the start of something new for me, so watch this space to see my new looks coming up soon!

I hope you enjoyed my post! I’d love to hear if you have any fashion resolutions? xxx

Clarks Dunbar Animal Print Flats

leopard-print-shoes

Hi Guys!

Today I want to talk about Leopard print. It’s a bit of a marmite pattern, some people love it and some really can’t stand it. To some it conjurs up images of the famous Pat Butcher from Eastenders, with her AMZINGLY massive earrings and loud clothing, or if you’re a bit older you may remember Bet Lynch from Corrie, with her platinum blonde beehive? Leopard print, or animal print in general can look a bit, ahem, cheap, but I personally love animal prints! I actually had a good five years of my life where I pretty much lived in H&M brightly coloured leopard print vest tops, teamed with equally bight contrasting coloured cardigans – such good times! For those who might want to dabble with a bit of animal print though, without it being OTT, shoes and accessories are a great place to start.

This is where my amazing new shoes come in! Their full name is the , from Shoetique. ‘Interest’ I’m guessing means the print. These super comfy flats are a traditional moccasin style (which I have to say wouldn’t usually appeal to me) they’re made with leopard printed leather and have a textured pony hair upper, and I LOVE these shoes! They’re perfect for jazzing up an every day outfit, they look great with jeans, leggings, or frocks. They really are super versatile. They also have a cushioned leather insole for comfort, amazing!

So what do you think, have I tempted you to try leopard print out?? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
