Today New Look have asked me to talk about prom dresses! I didn’t even hesitate when they asked me, I love prom dresses! The last prom (we called it a ‘Leaving Do’) I attended was when I left sixth form, many years ago. Ok it was 12 years ago, eek! I couldn’t find any photos (phew!) but I remember I wore a floor length strapless fitted gown made of shimmery peach coloured taffeta. It was amazing – at the time! Hey it was 2002, don’t judge me! 😀
There weren’t and still aren’t many options for posh frocks where I live, the basic idea was you were expected to wear a full length gown, so I went to my local frock shop and I remember hating everything. When I saw the peach dress I thought it was ok, then I had a seamstress fit it properly for me and I loved it!
My latest prom dress experience was at my wedding last year. I had an amazing Justin Alexander wedding dress but was concerned about ruining it by either dropping food down it or ripping the train at the evening reception with everyone drinking and things getting a bit lary! So I hunted for what seemed like forever to find the perfect vintage prom dress. I looked everywhere I could find online, ebay, etsy, you name it. I was even looking at US sites and considering importing one. Then I just happened to be wandering round my local town and strolled into a shop I’d never been in before, it had a small selection of vintage clothes at the back, and there it was – the dress! It was an original 1950’s turquoise blue calf length prom dress, with a fitted body, circle skirt and sequinned netting. It was perfect, and obviously meant to be! I bought it straight away wore this for the evening party with a pair of ASOS holographic shoes to jazz it up a bit 🙂 I loved wearing this dress so much, it’s perfect for dancing in!
To celebrate how prom dresses, styles and looks have evolved over the decades. New Look have put together a mini interactive graphic…

I thought I’d put a little look post together with my brand new Dream wig from Hot Hair and fave new lippy! – If you don’t know what that is, where have you been!? It’s the Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Violet, you need this is your life! There are also plenty of other colours to choose from if you’re not a fan of purple 🙂 I won’t write all about the lipstick again, as I’ve already written two posts on it including the Melted Coral colour! So please check out these posts if you’re interested!
Anyway, the main point of this post is that I wanted to show off my awesome new wig from Hot Hair! This is the Dream Wig by Natural Image, in Platinim Mist. Now, this was a bit of a risqué choice, as the wig is platinum grey – this is definitely not for the faint hearted! But you know me, I like to mix up my looks so I thought a grey wig with a bright lip could look really cool! When the wig arrived and I showed my other half, he was like ‘oh, it’s grey??’ YES! And I actually happen to love it!
The Dream wig is such a gorgeous flattering style, it’s a short bob with lovely layers around the face. The hair falls beautifully so you can keep it looking smart and sleek, or mess it up a bit like I have 🙂
It’s also worth mentioning this wig features a Comfort Cap Base to ensure a cool, comfortable fit. And the Monofilament top is hand-knotted onto a flesh colored top to create lots of movement and to create the illusion that the hair is growing right out of your scalp. Awesome!
I completely love this wig, I’m so glad I went for the grey! What do you think? Shall I stick with the grey or go for a more traditional colour?? 🙂 xxx
I’m now officially the owner of the prettiest necklace possibly ever, from MURU Jewellery at Lulu Winter And it arrived on my birthday too 🙂 Lulu Winter very kindly sent it to me for review and to show you guys. Here’s a bit more about MURU jewellery if you haven’t heard of them –
Muru’s design philosophy is to create fashionable jewellery with inspirational meaning.
Throughout history jewellery has been worn for its meaning & symbolism. Muru’s Talisman range is about simplifying jewellery & making it more meaningful in the modern day. Each Muru design has an individual sentiment or significance that empowers & inspires the wearer… these are jewellery designs for inspirational living.
Each Muru creation is designed in London but draws inspiration from cultures & mythologies that stretch right across the globe. Muru’s trademark British style is the 3-D nature & intricate detailing of each piece – giving you delicate designs that are beautifully created in sterling silver, gold vermeil & rose gold vermeil.
The Talisman Swallow Necklace in rose gold vermeil is absolutely gorgeous! It arrived beautifully packaged in a white textured MURU embossed box. Inside, the necklace sat on a purple faux suede like background. Two little cards were included in the box, one with the MURU logo and another explaining what the swallow symbolizes. The chain itself is fine enough to be pretty, yet definitely sturdy. There’s no chance of that bad boy snapping! The dainty swallow is about 2cm across and has a tiny diamond for it’s eye.
How completely gorgeous is this necklace!? MURU have so many Talisman necklaces on offer, in white gold, yellow gold and rose gold. You could choose an acorn, a wishbone, a key, a feather, or a scarab to name but a few. I think these necklaces would look amazing layered up! You can also buy matching earrings and bracelets!
So what do you think, is this necklace the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen!?
I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx
