Clarins Multi-Active Day and Night Creams

clarins-day-and-night-cream-review

Hi Guys!

One of my favourite beauty brands, Clarins is back on the blog today, and this time with a couple of brand new skincare products.

Their new Multi-Active day and Night Creams aim to visibly diminish the first signs of ageing, restore radiance, hydrate as well as maintain younger looking skin. Clarins describe them as ‘Multi-tasking skincare’, designed with your busy lifestyle in mind.

There are four day creams – one for all skin types, one for dry skin, one with added SPF20, and a also a light weight SPF15 lotion. For evening there are two options available, a standard night cream for dry skin, and a lighter version for normal to combination skin.

It’s great to hear that Clarins really have done their research when creating these products. They started off by asking women across the world aged between 30 and 39 what they thought affected the appearance of their skin the most – and they found lack of sleep and stress were the most popular responses.

Clarins’ own research has also proven this to be true. They found that stress and a lack of sleep can lead to an overproduction of free radicals which affect the main cell responsible for youthful skin: the fibroblast. This cell ensures the smooth, toned look of the skin due to its production of collagen and elastin fibres, so when it becomes worn out due to lack of sleep or stress, we start to notice the first visible signs of ageing, including fine lines and a dull complexion.

To give the Fibroblasts a helping hand, Clarins have used cutting edge technology to harness the power of plant extract Teasel, which has been selected to revitalise and protect tired and stressed skin by encouraging the production of ATP, an energising molecule, which also helps to fight free radicals.

I have the Multi-Active Day Dry Skin Cream – this is specifically designed for dry skin, helping to prevent and visibly correct the appearance of fine lines, thanks to the new organic Myrothamnus extract. The Myrothamnus plant originates from South Africa, and in the dry season the plant’s cells produce a substance called trehalose which allows them to rehydrate. In turn this helps protect dermal cells from harmful effects of stress and to keep skin smooth and radiant.

The Multi-Active Day Dry Skin Cream has a wonderfully hydrating formula that melts into the skin. It’s also enriched with light-reflecting ‘radiance’ pigments to illuminate and hydrate the complexion, and has a subtle-floral fragrance with notes of cherry and white lily, to revive and refresh.

I also have the Multi-Active Night Cream – this contains organic California Golden poppy extract, which helps to offset the damaging effects of late nights and interrupted sleep – this sounds perfect for me!

To explain this a bit more-  at night, the skin fights damage caused by stress by producing a hormone called melatonin. Due to interruptions in the sleep cycle or a reduction in the length of sleep, this process is disrupted, meaning lower amounts of the hormone are secreted and damage intensifies. The Golden poppy extract helps to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and fight the harmful effects of free radicals in the skin, helping skin to become visibly smoothed and more toned upon waking.

So the idea is that you apply this before bed, and wake up with smoother skin and redefined features. The Multi-Active Night Cream also works to prevent as well as correct the appearance of fine lines, whilst nourishing and hydrating the skin. I also want to mention the lovely calming and relaxing fragrance which is perfect for bed time. It includes notes of jasmine, freesia and heliotrope to help soothe the mind.

Both creams are lightly scented and feel thick and luxurious, and I love that they both sink into the skin really quickly leaving no residue. I must say I think the Night cream is my favourite though, I’ve used it a few times now and I always wake up with super soft skin the mornings after using it.

Clarins Multi-Active Day and Night Creams are available to purchase now from .

I’d love to hear if you’re a fan of Clarins skincare? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

NEW DHC Skincare Reservatrol Collection

DHC-Resveratrol-review

Hi Guys!

I have a collection of brand new and rather gorgeous looking products from cult Japanese brand, DHC to share with you today. Ok, so you may have heard that red wine – in moderation – can actually be good for you? Well DHC has taken this on board, and after a serious amount of research, they’ve incorporated one key ingredient found in red wine into their new skincare range.

Resveratrol is a highly potent antioxidant that’s found in the skin of red grapes, and when applied topically it’s been found to improve tissue elasticity, support the skins’ natural moisture barrier and protect against environmental damage. Resveratrol is also a phytoalexin – one of 600 microbial compounds produced by plants to protect them from adverse conditions including UV rays. In DHC’s lab studies, it was also shown to promote the Sirtuin ‘longevity’ gene.

Utilising this powerful antioxidant, DHC has developed the Resveratrol three-step skincare system, which includes a high concentration of this wonder ingredient.  Unlike other powerful anti-ageing ingredients such as retinol, resveratrol is non-irritating and suitable for even sensitive skin – so it’s perfect for me!

DHC-Resveratrol-collection

The Reservatrol collection includes a hydrating toner, super-booster and rich moisturiser, and DHC recommend you layer the three products for maximum results.

Resveratrol Lotion (£43.00) – This ultra hydrating toner luxuriously promotes smoother, more resilient skin with resveratrol, combined with soothing, moisturising cereal extracts to help boost skin’s natural moisture barrier and improve its defences against environmental damage. The lotion has a light, water-like texture which allows for rapid absorption into the skin to prepare it for the booster and moisturiser.

Resveratrol Essence (£43.00) – This moisture promoting Essence is actually a serum, described as ‘a deeply hydrating super booster which reduces the appearance of fine lines for a smoother skin.’ DHC advise that you pat the serum into cleansed and toned skin prior to moisturising for maximum effect.

Resveratrol Cream (£43.00) – The third step in the Reservatrol route, this intensive, age defying moisturiser has a thick, luxurious texture. As well as providing total hydration for a more ‘plumped’ looking skin, the cream boosts the skins natural moisture barrier.

The three products all have a lovely, light scent, and each feels luxurious to use and apply. I’ve only been using these for a few days but my dry skin is already loving the moisturiser especially!

The Resveratrol range is available now from .

The Weekly Top 5 #11

Posted on July 12, 2015

the-weekly-top-5-no-11_edited-1

Hi Guys!

You’ve probably noticed I’ve had a few weeks off from my weekly Sunday posts, well now I’m back in the game and determined to post my weekly roundup EVERY SUNDAY. Yep I’m determined. Ok so this week I’ve been pretty busy – I’ve been settling into my new job, which is going really well, and I’ve also been having lots of fun in the sun with Fred, playing in his new massive paddling pool at my parents house!

I’ve also been attempting to sort out my ridiculous makeup and skincare stash – I have a slight hoarding problem but I NEED to get over it and throw away, give away and sell a load of stuff. My office is being taken over by products, so I’ve started sorting through everything, and I’m aiming to be finished by the end of the week. I’ll hopefully be doing a blog sale with some of the items I no longer want, so keep an eye out for this next week!

And lastly, my massive £700 giveaway has also just ended, and the winner has just been emailed – thanks so much to everyone that entered! If you missed out this time though don’t worry, I have another giveaway that’s just gone live where you can win a 12 month Glossybox subscription!

This week’s favourites –

As we’ve been out in the sun a lot lately, I’m always careful to use sunscreen. I’m really quite pale, and Fred is even fairer than me, so I’ve been making sure we’re both creamed up! I’ve started using La Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50 Comfort Cream (£15.50) this week and it really is a great product. I love that this cream has a super high SPF of 50, as well as being specially formulated for sensitive and sun intolerant skins. It’s easy to apply, moisturising, and non greasy. This cream ticks all the boxes for me!

La Roche Posay also has a really sweet video on Youtube, reminding you to help check your loved ones beauty spots and moles –

Another favourite product from this week has been the Silk Oil of Morocco Fibre Brow Enhancer (£19.99) Now I must admit, as much as I love makeup, from buying it to applying it, I’ve always been a bit lacking in the brow skills department. I usually just give them a quick once over with a brow pencil – and they never look particularly amazing. I just took it that brows wern’t my thing! Anyway, the Fibre Brow Enhancer recently arrived in the post and it’s been a lifesaver! It’s basically super tiny fibres that you brush onto your brows to make them look fuller and thicker. I have really fine and sparse brows so this is definitely the product for me. You literally just apply directly to your brows with the want provided, it takes no time at all, and the product ‘sets’ in 60 seconds too which is handy, and can be removed easily with warm water.

I’ve also been using the  (£9.95) this week. This moisturiser is composed of a combination of valuable mineral extracts – from pearls, silk and crystals along with clinically proven plant substances. This is a specially formulated anti-ageing product that protects from dry skin, loss of elasticity, the forming of wrinkles, age related redness, and fatigued eyes. Now I’m the wrong side of 30, I’m up for trying any product that promises to help with the signs of ageing! This Bio Clinica cream contains collagen, aloe vera, allantoines, bisabolol, soy and sesame oil, which can contribute to tightening and firming the skin. I haven’t been using this product very long at all, but I already feel that my complexion is looking brighter!

My drink of choice this week appears to have been Lucozade Pink Lemonade, I have no idea why but I can’t get enough of it at the moment! 🙂

And lastly, my latest Netflix obsession has been Rupaul’s Drag Race! I remember watching one of the first seasons a long time ago, so when I saw this pop up on my recommended list I had to take a look. The queens were just fabulous, as expected, and I just love everything about this show – the divas, the dramas, the ridiculous and amazing makeup and outfits, and especially when when they have to ‘Lip synch… for your life’. If you haven’t seen this series yet you need to check it out!

Other things worth mentioning –

I’ve just had three Colourpop Lippie Stix arrive! YAY! If you haven’t heard of Colourpop they’re a cheap as chips US brand that have been taking the beauty word by storm, with their massive range of affordable products. Just take a look on Youtube and you’ll see what I mean. Colourpop currently only ship to the US though, so I bought these second hand from my  Facebook group and I’m so excited! Keep your eye out for a review coming up very shortly.

And lastly I wanted to include a mention of one of Hayley LBQ’s latest posts – the . Hayley has recognised there really is a massive collective of bloggers aged 30 and over, but blogging is still seen as a youngsters game. She wants to let the world know that WE ARE HERE! We have a voice, and we’re not afraid to tell you what we like and what we don’t like. Take a look at her post for all the details 🙂

I hope you’re having a great weekend and that you enjoyed my post xxx

Templespa Skin Truffle Total Face Rejuvenation Cream

Posted on May 21, 2015

templespa-skin-truffle

Hi Guys!

You know I’m a big fan of luxury products, and when it comes to skincare I really think it can pay to get the best you can afford. So with that in mind, today I’m talking about the award winning Temple Spa Skin Truffle Total Face Rejuvenation Cream. This stuff is packed full of amazing ingredients including gold and silk actives, diamond powder and black truffles – ooh err!

Arriving in a bronze box, this cream really is the height of luxury. Opening the lid reveals a decent sized (50ml) jar of pale truffle coloured cream – as well as a handy plastic spatula and instructions. The cream itself is beautifully thick and and rich, with the very slightest hint of shimmer and a light pleasant scent.

Described as happiness in a jar this wonder cream has been five years in the making by Templespa’s team of top skincare specialists. Incorperating a unique patented formula that utilises the very latest in nano and peptide technology, along with a fusion of natural actives, Templespa promises seriously impressive results including –

  • Instant radiance, lustre and clarity
  • Long term anti-ageing
  • Reviving tired, dull skin
  • Regulating moisture levels
  • Protection from age spots and hyper-pigmentation

Impressively, when tested, 80% of users declared increased radiance and reduced dullness upon immediate application. 100% said fine lines were visibly reduced and 100% said their skin hydration levels improved immediately.

Let’s take a look at some of the amazing sounding ingredients –

  • HappyBelle-PE: This is the breakthrough phyto-endorphin complex, that mimics the endorphin effect on the complexion, it gives the ‘I’ve just had good news’ glow.
  • Syn-Col: This pro-collagen peptide aids collagen production, it’s deeply penetrating with anti-wrinkle properties.
  • Black Truffles: These brighten the skin tone, acts as a natural antioxidant, and firms and smoothes the skin.
  • Cocoa Butter: Softens and lubricates the skin.
  • Grape Seed Champagne: Another natural antioxidant, this fights free radicals and regenerates skin.
  • Strawberry Extract: Rich in nutrients this is a natural beauty food, used to tone, purify and freshen.
  • Gold & Silk Actives: Free radicals protect against skin stress, as well as being moisturising and antibacterial.
  • Diamond Powder: Used to illuminate the skin, giving an instant glow.

After using this product only a few times, I can already see why it’s won an award and received the highest ever Beauty Bible Anti-Ageing Award score. I must admit I initially thought it may be too rich for my skin, but even though it has a thick texture it melts into the skin and is absorbed really quickly, leaving no residue or greasiness, just a healthy looking complexion. My skin definitely felt plumper and more radiant after only a couple of uses, and I think with continued use the results will be even more impressive. I know this isn’t a cheap product by anyone’s standards, but it’s definitely worth the money if you fancy splashing out on payday!

Templespa Skin Truffle Total Face Rejuvenation Cream is £85 for 50ml from Templespa.

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any Templespa products? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Some New Bath Time Treats…

Posted on March 24, 2015

new-bath-time-treats

Hi Guys!

Funnily enough, I never used to be bothered about having baths – don’t worry, I did shower! I think this stems from my mum only allowing me one (short) bath a week when I was little – ‘to save money’. So baths were never really my thing. Fast forward twenty years or so when my husband and I moved into our brand new house, which led to a different bathroom problem – the bath water wouldn’t get hot, at all. I could run a bath from the hot tap only and put Fred straight in (he was about 1 at the time) then we found out the nice people at Persimmon had put some sort of limiter on the temperature so you couldn’t scald yourself – thanks for that! £40 later we had it removed and I can now finally enjoy a lovely hot bath!

Anyway, enough of my bath time history! Last week I decided to have a bit of a tidy up and clear out in the bathroom, so I thought I’d show you my most recent additions –

Phytacol PhytaOil – I’ve started using this to try to help with my ridiculous stretch marks. I’ve got them across the whole of my mid section, at the top of my boobs and the tops of my thighs. My belly ones are old from being massive when I was pregnant but the others are more recent due to my weight gain over the last two years. It’s bad enough putting a heap of weight on but having stretch marks too just makes it that much worse! So Phytaoil basically contains Rosehip Oil, which should help with my stretch marks (it’s also good for scars too) it’s rich in essential fatty acids, which are the building blocks for healthy skin cells, as well as antioxidants, vitamins A & E, and natural oils of apricot kernel, jojoba seed, lavender, lime and geranium. I used Bio Oil a long time ago which didn’t work at all, so fingers crossed Phytaoil will have better results. Phytaoil is £10.99 and can be purchased from Phytacol

L’Erbolario Narciso Sublime Bath Foam – This is another new brand to me. L’Erbolario Narciso is an Italian plant-based beauty brand, and their Sublime range has a fresh floral and dark green fragrance. The Sublime Bath Foam contains toning and softening extracts of Narcissus flowers and Narcissus distilled water, combined with almond oil sufactants and oat amino acids, and it gives a beautiful bubbly bath. There’s also an EDP, Body Oil and Candle as well as other items available in the range. The Narciso Sublime Bath Foam is £12.50 from

Argan 5 Moroccan Rose Body Wash & Body Butter – I love Moroccan and Argan Oil hair products so when I heard about Argan 5’s rose scented body range I had to try a couple of their products out! The Moroccan Rose Bath & Body Collection has been specially formulated to enrich the skin for long-lasting hydration, and leave you literally smelling of roses. The Nourish & Anew Body Wash has a beautiful Rose Otto scent and counteracts the drying effects of water on the skin with their exclusive Argan + synergy complex, and the Nourish & Soften Body Butter increases cellular turnover to leave skin deeply hydrated. The Argan + synergy complex includes Moroccan Argan Oil, Baobab, Kukui, Moringa Oil and Sacha Inchi to restore, regenerate and nourish the skin. This collection is from £4.95 at Waitrose.

Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil – Carrying on with the rose scented theme, I also have this beautiful Wild Rose Body Oil – it really does leave skin soft, supple and velvety smooth. It contains wild musk rose oil, jojoba oil and almond oil to nourish and protect skin, and it’s ideal for an all over facial and body massage – nice! I haven’t used this on my face as yet, but I love to cover myself in it after a bath. This is £19.95 for 100m from Weleda.

Molton Brown Blossoming Honeysuckle & White Tea Bath & Shower Gel – Molton Brown are one of my all time favourite companies when it comes to bath products. Their scents are just amazing! Their latest Blossoming Honeysuckle & White Tea collection takes inspiration from Sichuan, China, and its breath-taking mountains and azure lakes. This new floral collection is blended with this exquisite region’s honeysuckle and rare white tea. This is the legend of the goddess Semo that inspired the scent –

Legend has it that the Sichuan goddess Semo was presented with a magical mirror by a love-struck
mountain deity. While admiring herself, it slipped from her hands, shattering to create 114 lakes.
Mirror Lake was the most beautiful of them all – still and pure as white tea; floating, delicate petals of jasmine and overhanging trees adorned with unfurled honeysuckle blossoms.

I love the story behind the range and the bath & shower gel is just spot on. It’s blended with honeysuckle, antioxidant-rich white tea leaf and warm heliotrope. The fragrance includes top notes of bergamot and mandarin, heart notes of honeysuckle, white tea and jasmine, and base notes of sandalwood, heliotrope and vanilla. This is £18.00 from .

I’d love to hear what your favourite bath and body products are? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Introducing ARK Skincare: The Age Maintain Range

Posted on March 23, 2015

ark-age-maintain-skincare

Hi Guys!

Happy Monday! The sun is shining and I’m super excited that the lovely guys at ARK skincare have sent me a bundle of their gorgeous products to try out. I have most of the products from the  range, which is aimed at those in their mid 30’s up to age 50. I’m coming up 31 in June but was advised that due to my skin being on the dry side, I’d benefit more from this range than the Age Prepare range which is aimed at those with oilier skins from teens to early 30’s.

The Age Maintain range targets skin that’s starting to show signs of ageing, such a fine lines, wrinkles and sensitivity. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I am starting to get fine lines around my eyes – and I know they’re only going to get worse! And my skin has always been on the sensitive side, so I’m hoping this range of products will work really well for my skin!

So lets take a look at the products –

Replenishing Moisturiser (£27) – This is ARK’s best selling anti-wrinkle treatment moisturiser. With Co-enzyme Q10, it’s packed with natural moisturising agents including Shea Butter and Olive Oil. It also contains clinically proven anti-ageing peptides, including Matrixyl, to smoothes out wrinkles, plump and tones the skin, and diminish signs of premature ageing.

Soothing Masque (£26) – This is a calming face mask for stressed and irritated skin. It helps to reduce the appearance of redness associated with dryness, and diminish the look of wrinkles. With an encapsulated blend of Vitamin A, C, E and F, it promotes skin firmness and elasticity.

Conditioning Cleanser (£24) – This is an ultra-nourishing cleanser that helps with skin’s natural exfoliation for a clear, radiant complexion. It removes make-up and excess sebum to leave skin exquisitely clean, plump and supple. This cleanser is perfect for sensitive skins as the natural ingredients soothe redness and inflammation too.

Renewing Exfoliator (£29) – This is a gentle, granule-free exfoliating mask that safely removes dead cells from the skin’s surface using Multifruit Acids. This super-smoothing skin saviour diminishes rough, flaky skin to promote a younger looking complexion.

De-Stress SkinResponse Serum (£42) – This soothing DeStress Serum reduces the visible signs of skin stress, diminishing the look of fatigue, slackness and loss of vitality. Created with a herbal complex, this anti-irritant serum calms redness and boosts hydration for beautiful, healthy skin.

I’m so excited now to get stuck in with these products, I feel like I’m completely kitted out so I can work on getting my skin to it’s best condition yet! I’m going to be giving these products a long term trial over the next couple of months, with updates along the way – so I can find out if they really work. Keep your eyes peeled for my first update in the next couple of weeks!

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried ARK Skincare products before? xx
