Makeup To Make Your Blue Eyes POP!

Posted on September 15, 2014

Hi Guys!

The other day I had an awesome idea for a collaboration post, I thought I could put together a couple of looks that I love – specifically for blue eyes – and collaborate with another blogger to do the same, but with brown eyes, good idea no?

I know many people are scared of blue eye makeup – mentioning blue eyshadow especially conjurs images of 80’s popstars or even a pantomime dame. But blue can be good if you get it right! And if you read my blog you may have noticed I have a bit of a thing for blue eyeliners 🙂

I find a blue eyeliner, rather than eyeshadow especially can really accentuate blue eyes, and the right shade can really make your eye colour pop.

If you’re scared of blue shadows, I’d highly recommend a bright blue liner in the waterline. Whereas black liner in the waterline can make the eyes appear smaller, a bright sky blue can brighten up your face and eyes and look pretty awesome too!

On the image above I’ve teamed a neutral smokey eye with one of the most vivid blue eyeliners I have… here are the products I used –

  • Makeup Revolution What You Waiting For Palette
  • MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan (on waterline)
  • Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Atomic Black (on upper lid)
  • Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara in Black

And in this one I’ve gone for something a little more daring, with full on blue eyeliner on the top lid and waterline, and warm red and golden eyeshadow shades. It’s always handy to be ‘colour conscious’ when considering which eyeshadows to use, anything warm such as golds, coppers and browns are great colours to accentuate blue eyes.

Products used above –

  • I Heart Makeup by Makeup Revolution Explicit Content Palette
  • MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan (on upper lid)
  • Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Blue Remix (on waterline)
  • Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara in Black

So that’s me done, I hope you like!? Let me know what you think!

The lovely blogger that’s collaborating with my on this post is Emma from Not Your Average, I’ve included one of her looks below, but please check out her post –  for more gorgeous brown eyed  makeup looks xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Matte Lip Lacquers!

Posted on September 12, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today I have some of the newest offerings from Makeup Revolution to share with you! They have just gone and added four new shades to their Salvation Velvet Matte Lip Lacquer range, and I happen to have noticed that three out of the four shades are dead ringers for Lime Crime’s Clueless Witch Velvetines collection…

First up is Depravity, a bright clean blue toned purple, and it is stunning! This is easily my favourite shade out of the four and I can’t get enough of it! It’s everything I look for in a lip product, with 100% full opacity and a matte finish, what more does a girl need!? I also found this one applied the most evenly and was the easiest to manipulate compared to the rest.

Next we have Rebel, an intense pinkish red. This is definitely the most easy to wear colour out of the four shades, this bright intense berry red is the perfect colour for the impending autumn and winter seasons too!

Next is Vamp, I’ve just described this as deepest purple, it’s almost black but not quite. Now I should probably point out that this was actually the last colour I tested, as you can see the edges of my lips have gone a bit pink due to rubbing the previous products off. Once dried, these lacquers seriously DO NOT BUDGE, but I”ll tell you more about that in a bit.

And lastly we have Black Heart, which is a super dark purple, so dark it really is almost black. You can see this is very similar to Vamp, there’s really not much in it al all except this is slightly darker.

Now these lacquers are tricky things, the formula is obviously a liquid, which is easily to manipulate on the lips when wet, you can spread it around and build up the colour, but as soon as it dries it’s pretty much like glue! It doesn’t budge for love nor money! (think that’s a phrase my mum uses) I had to rub and rub and RUB to get this stuff off when I was testing it. And yes it was a bit of a pain, but at the end of the day we all want long lasting lipstick, don’t we? So now we have it!

I’d recommend practicing with these before rushing to put them on before going out, like I said, this stuff won’t move once it’s dried. I found it pretty tricky to get a good clean line around the lips – because the lacquers are so super pigmented, any tiny hint of imperfection shows. My personal favourite, Depravity seemed to be the easiest to apply, though I’m not sure why as the formula appeared the same at the other shades. And the darker shades seemed to be a bit more difficult. All you need is a bit of practice and a steady hand!

I’ve compared some of my hand swatches to the Lime Crime Clueless Witch Velvetines product images above. I do have a Lime Crime Velvetine, but it’s not one of the Clueless Witch collection, so I don’t really think it would be fair to compare. You can see the colours are pretty similar though!

So there we have it, another fab bunch of products from Makeup Revolution, oh and did I mention these are only £3 each! What a bargain! I wonder what they’ll think of next!?

(Oh and I just thought I’d mention I haven’t actually got my septum pierced, it’s a fake ring from , do you like?)

I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

Ten Tips To Stop Your Makeup Melting This Summer!

Posted on August 14, 2014

1. Wear less makeup. Ok I know it sounds obvious, but If your usual foundation is heavy it’s probably a good idea to try avoiding it on particularly hot days, or at least try adding moisturiser to thin it down a bit. Alternatively exchange your foundation completely for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream to keep your skin feeling light.

2. Keep skin clean. In the summer when we sweat more, I can’t tell you how important it is to keep your skin clean. Seriously though, don’t even start applying makeup to uncleansed skin, apart from the fact that your makeup won’t stick very well, just think of the dirt and God knows what else that’s clogging up your pores! Eww! A little tip is if you’re prone to greasy skin, give your skin a quick once over with toner before applying your makeup to remove any extra oiliness and give you the best base for applying your makeup.

3. Use the right products for your skin. If you have oily skin, don’t just throw on any old skincare products, it’s especially important in the summer to use products that suit your skin to help prevent oiliness, such as the Dermalogica  which contains everything you need for your skincare routine.  products come highly recommended too!

4. Don’t forget Primer. It’s important to use primer anyway to give your foundation a base and to make it appear more even, but if you suffer from summer ‘oil slick face’ make sure you choose your primer carefully. I’d recommend you go for a mattifying primer such as Illamasqua’s Matte Primer or one of my personal favourites, MAC’s . These will provide an excellent base for your makeup to sick to.

5. Chillax. If you’re in a rush, hot and flustered when applying your makeup you’re asking for trouble. Makeup does not like very warm skin – hence why it tends to slide off when you get hot! So if you try applying it to hot skin to begin with you’ll find application very difficult and the products are likely to not want to ‘stick’. Take a moment to cool down before applying makeup. Maybe stick your head in the fridge? Or in front of a fan?? Ha ha! A good tip actually is to rub an ice cube over your face before doing your makeup, (dont forget to dry your face after) as well as cooling down your skin it will help close up pores. 🙂

6. Blotting paper – followed by pressed powder. Japanese inspired skincare brand Tatcha make some fabulous  which are perfect for when you’re on the go. They remove excess oil and sweat without disturbing your makeup. A definite must if you have oily skin! You can always followed with a pressed translucent powder to stay extra matte.

7. Use a fixing spray. If you think of fixing spray, most people wit think of Urban Decay’s cult classic All Nighter Setting Spray, which is a great product but it doesn’t come cheap. New kid on the block Makeup Revolution also have an uber affordable Fixing Spray on offer for just a fiver which comes highly recommended.

8. Ditch the Cream products. I’d recommend using powder based products rather than cream based products where you can. Creams tend to slide off the skin so much more easily in hot weather so avoid if you can! Another great option is tints, so maybe change out your cream blusher for a fab tint such as MeMeMe Coral Blossom Lip & Cheek Tint, this is a lovely light coral colour that will suit most skin tones.

9. Choose the right Foundation. Personally I love a dewy / satin finish foundation, but then my skin is on the dry side so this seems to work for me. On the other hand if you have oily skin a dewy finish can leave you looking sweaty and shiny, so In that case I’d definitely opt for a matte finish product, such as NARS . I have a friend that swears by it. It’s sheer enough for a light matte coverage but also easily buildable.

10. Keep it waterproof. Opt for waterproof versions of everything you can get your hands on – mascara and eyeliners are the most obvious choices. My favourite mascara  also comes in a handy waterproof version which I’d highly recommend! Their  are also my go-to eyeliner of choice too, they’re crease resistant and completely waterproof so there’s no fear of smudging or panda eyes!

That’s about all I can think of to keep your makeup put this summer, I’d love to hear if you have any other hints or tips? xxx

Urban Decay Electric Palette Dupe! Makeup Rev Colour Chaos Review!

Posted on August 12, 2014

Hi Guys!

Wow just look at this amazing new Makeup Revolution palette, there’s bright and there’s this! This is the brand new Salvation Palette in Colour Chaos! This palette contains an awesome combination of acid neons, brights and a couple of neutrals, and it rather reminds me of the Urban Decay Electric Palette too…

As with the other Salvation Palettes, this one includes 18 shadows in varying colours and finishes, and it costs just £6. Making each shade only 33p! Woo hoo! just look at all the amazing shades and imagine all the looks that could be created with this palette!

Ok I just thought I’d throw in a quick pic of the Urban Decay Electric palette, so you can get an idea of shade comparison. If you follow the colours across, you’ll see the Colour Chaos shades are EXACTLY THE SAME, just with two extra shadows added on the end of the second row, and a whole extra row of shadows too underneath. This cannot be a coincidence!

urban decay electric palette

Ok so onto the actual shadows. First up we have the top row – I was really surprised with how absolutely amazing the pigment was in these shadows! The previous I Heart Makeup Sin Palette I reviewed had a couple of matte neon shades in too, which turned out to be a bit disappointing – they looked great in the pan but didn’t come out very well when swatched. But just look at these bad boys! The shimmer shades are awesome and so are the mattes, I’m super impressed!!

Next up we have the middle row. The only slight disappointment here was Toxic Apple-tini, which took a whole lot of build up to give decent pigmentation on the swatch, otherwise all’s good for this row of shadows too! I love Do It Now, it’s such a gorgeous unusual shimmery green.

And lastly the bottom row. Again I have to say I didn’t get my hopes up for these shades as they all have matte finishes, and I’ve learned that Makeup Revolution mattes are often no where near the same quality as the shimmers. Unfortunately I was proven right with these shades, they were pretty chalky and it took a lot of swatching to build the colour up to the intensity that you can see below.

So overall yes you could say some of the shades aren’t that great, but there are at least eleven good to excellent shades in here which surely has to be worth £6? I think if you’re interested in brights and especially neons it’s definitely worth buying. Also the colour Chaos palette is obviously the perfect dupe for the Urban Decay Electric palette, so for £6 it’d be crazy not to give it a go!

I’d love to hear your thoughts xxx

I Heart Makeup – I Am Naked Palette | Review

Posted on July 30, 2014

Hi Guys!

Today I’m reviewing the I Am Naked Palette (£5.99) from I Heart Makeup at Makeup Revolution.

The I Am Naked palette is one of four new palette sets, including I Am Sexy, I Am Powerful and I Am In Love. These theme sets include six eyeshadows and one lipstick in a handy compact palette. The idea being that this is a handy little kit for when you’re on the go!

This palette comes in the usual black gloss casing with an internal mirror. It has a double ended mini sponge applicator (not my fave really, I’d prefer a brush) and the lipstick clicks into a slot beside the eyeshadows.

The colours included in this palette are a great range of natural nude shades, in a mixture of matte and shimmer finishes. As expected due to previous experience the shimmers are fantastic and the mattes are not so great. If Makeup Rev could just sort out their matte shade formula then their eyeshadow sets would be completely amazing! (Hint hint!) Luckily four out of the six shadows have a shimmer finish, so overall I’m still happy! I think this is definitely a handy little kit to have – I love the gold and taupe shimmer colours!

The lipstick is a neutral beige shade, in a satin finish. It’s neither drying nor moisturising and lasted a couple of hours before I needed to reapply. This is a great every day shade!

So there we have it, another fab budget product from I Heart Makeup!

I hope you enjoyed my review, I’d love to hear what you think? xxx

I Heart Makeup NEW Palettes! Sin vs Passion | Review

Posted on July 27, 2014

Hi Guys!

Makeup Revolution have been at it again and have brought out a whole load of new products in their I Heart Makeup range! I have two new eyeshadow palettes called I Heart Passion, which is neutral / purples based, and I Heart Sin, which has some bright bold colours and a couple of neons in there too!

These new I Heart palettes have 16 shades which are a mixture of mattes and shimmers. These fall under the ‘Wonder Palettes’ category on the site, and sit with the two ‘Chocolate’ palettes. They cost £7.99 each, making each shadow about 49p.

The I Heart Sin palette has seven neutral shades, including black, greys and browns, and nine bright shades including purple, neon pink, blue, green and neon yellow. My preconceptions of this palette made me hope for great things with the shimmer shades, but not expect to much with the mattes. I was hoping I’d be proven wrong though as both the neon shades have matte finishes and I was really excited about these colours!

So if you take a look at the swatches, the shimmers do win hands down as expected. The two gold and brown shades, Golden Gun and Greed is Good were absolutely stunning, it was almost as if they’d been applied wet, the pigmentation was amazing and the colour was so intense! The two neons on the other hand were unfortunately not quite as exciting. The colour was great, and the pigmentation looked good too, they just didn’t apply very well and were quite chalky.

And now on to the I Heart Passion palette! This one is more neutral based, it has some lovely muted greys and purples. Again this has seven matte shades and nine shimmers.

There are some fab shimmers in this palette, I love the intense blue of Never Never and the deep green of Catch Your Eye. The I heart Passion palette definitely has more wearable, every day colours, but then I do love those two gold shades in the I heart Sin palette, I think I’m torn!

You’ve probably noticed I’ve written quite a few Makeup Revolution reviews lately, if you’re interested in reading any more of my posts you can check them out here –

My Favourite Blushers | Guest Post

Posted on July 19, 2014

Hey loves,

My name is Victoria and I blog over  Thank you to Michelle for allowing me to guest post on her fabulous blog. Today let’s talk about two of my favourite blushers, one from high end and one from the drugstore.

When it comes to blusher I am a very fussy lady. I don’t love pink shades due to my cheeks having a pink undertone. I find that pink blushers enhance my pores and make me look very doll like.

Let’s get talking about the blushers. Makeup Revolution have quite literally taken everyone by surprise and keep knocking out fantastic products. My good friend Shannon Wilson sent me a parcel of treats and goodies and this blush was included. I did not think I would love it at all. It is so pigmented but you can get a light flush look by gently tapping your brush into the blush without going 80’s glam on your brush. I think a huge factor into changing my mind on the colour was how well it blended out and didn’t look straight up pink on me. What I was shocked about the most was the longevity of the blush on my cheeks. It lasted all day and didn’t separate once. The packaging is basic and not special but the product has converted me to looking at pink blushers in a different light.

When I went to Cardiff at Christmas I forgot to take a blush on my overnight trip. Did I need one? No but hey it was Christmas. I was browsing around Debenhams and drifted to the Illamasqua counter. Immediately I thought ok let’s splurge. I tried a few shades before my eyes went to Lover. When I say holy grail product I mean it with this baby. It is the most perfect peach blusher in the world. It is seriously pigmented, buttery to touch, blends like a dream and looks gorgeous on my fair skin. Just perfect. It stays put all day and I have often used it as a transition shade on my eyes. It was however £18 which is expensive.

As you can see from the pictures both blushers are gorgeous and year round friendly. I don’t tend to stick with trends for makeup. I wore MAC Diva just last week.

I hope you liked this post. Please feel free to pop over to my blog and have a read.

Have a wonderful day,

Victoria xox
