Makeup To Make Your Blue Eyes POP!

Posted on September 15, 2014

Hi Guys!

The other day I had an awesome idea for a collaboration post, I thought I could put together a couple of looks that I love – specifically for blue eyes – and collaborate with another blogger to do the same, but with brown eyes, good idea no?

I know many people are scared of blue eye makeup – mentioning blue eyshadow especially conjurs images of 80’s popstars or even a pantomime dame. But blue can be good if you get it right! And if you read my blog you may have noticed I have a bit of a thing for blue eyeliners 🙂

I find a blue eyeliner, rather than eyeshadow especially can really accentuate blue eyes, and the right shade can really make your eye colour pop.

blue-eyeliner-eye

If you’re scared of blue shadows, I’d highly recommend a bright blue liner in the waterline. Whereas black liner in the waterline can make the eyes appear smaller, a bright sky blue can brighten up your face and eyes and look pretty awesome too!

On the image above I’ve teamed a neutral smokey eye with one of the most vivid blue eyeliners I have… here are the products I used –

  • Makeup Revolution What You Waiting For Palette
  • MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan (on waterline)
  • Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Atomic Black (on upper lid)
  • Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara in Black

And in this one I’ve gone for something a little more daring, with full on blue eyeliner on the top lid and waterline, and warm red and golden eyeshadow shades. It’s always handy to be ‘colour conscious’ when considering which eyeshadows to use, anything warm such as golds, coppers and browns are great colours to accentuate blue eyes.

Products used above –

  • I Heart Makeup by Makeup Revolution Explicit Content Palette
  • MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan (on upper lid)
  • Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in Blue Remix (on waterline)
  • Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara in Black

So that’s me done, I hope you like!? Let me know what you think!

The lovely blogger that’s collaborating with my on this post is Emma from Not Your Average, I’ve included one of her looks below, but please check out her post –  for more gorgeous brown eyed  makeup looks xxx

A Guide To Buying MAC Makeup on Ebay…

Posted on August 21, 2014

fake-makeup

Hi Guys!

Today I thought I’d discuss fake cosmetics. There are so many fakes out there it’s unreal, but with prices ever increasing (MAC’s lipsticks recently went from an okay £11 a few years ago to a purse clenching £15.50 each) people are looking elsewhere for their high end and designer makeup fix. So to ebay we go, and it’s literally littered with fakes. The majority of them being sought after high end brands such as MAC and Benefit.

I’m a massive fan of eBay but I have been stung twice in the past with counterfeit MAC makeup. The first time I was buying a foundation… I had a makeover done in store and purchased an eyeshadow, when I got home I wished I’d gone for the foundation too so decided to chance eBay and try to find a bargain. I found the foundation I was looking for and I knew it would be the right colour as I’d just been shade matched in store. When it arrived it was terrible! The packaging and compact looked as they should, but the colour was so off, it was completely orange! It also smelled really strange! I complained to the seller and got my money back, I think they’d realised they’d been caught out so were happy to pay me my money back and the cost of sending the product back to them. It was quite worrying though as the outer packaging and compact looked spot on, even though the product was clearly counterfeit.

The second time I got stung I bought a bundle of makeup with some MAC lip glosses in, which I only went for because it was cheap and because I wanted the glosses. The shades weren’t specified but I went for it anyway because it was a complete bargain. When the parcel arrived and I inspected the glosses and they all had numbers instead of shade names and I instantly knew they were fake – and that I was an idiot for being stung again. I complained to the seller who was happy to confirm that yes they were in fact fakes, and she’d bought them from China. She seemed completely unaware that selling counterfeit goods was illegal. When I said I wanted my money back she asked me to post them back to her but refused to pay my costs. I wasn’t going to be out of pocket when this wasn’t my fault, so I took it to ebay and they found in my favour. I got a full refund and got to keep the glosses – which went straight in the bin.

These cases both happened a few years ago now, and despite being stung twice I’m still an avid ebayer, but it appears as time goes by there are more and more fakes cropping up on the market, not just MAC and not just makeup – don’t even get me started on designer bags! So I thought I’d put together a post to try to help people avoid having similar experiences to me…

1. Know your brands. If you know what real MAC makeup looks like and try to keep up to date with their collections, you’ll be better informed to spot fakes. You would know that Lady Gaga bought out two Viva Glam lipsticks, and two glosses. She did not bring out a massive range of lipstick colours. So you’d know that set of 24 MAC Lady Gaga lippies you’ve just seen on ebay are definitely counterfeit without question. If you keep up to date with products, you’ll be able to sniff a fake a mile off.

2. Know your shade names. With MAC makeup especially (apart from foundations which have names such as NW20 and NC15 for example) all products will have shade names. So a lipstick would be called ‘Creme Cup’ for example, not ’02 Pink’ or just a number. MAC do not use numbers instead of shade names.

3. Check what else the seller is selling. Do they have 25 of exactly the same item to sell? I would take this as a warning sign. Remember companies like MAC do not sell wholesale, so ebay sellers that offer a massive range of MAC makeup are more than likely selling fakes. And where is the seller based? Many fakes originate from eastern countries so steer clear from sellers located in China and Taiwan. Make use of a site called Goofbid to check sellers buying and selling history.

4. Always pay by Paypal. When you checkout on ebay make sure you pay via Paypal on every occasion. Some sellers may you asking to send a paypal payment direct, or even to send a bank transfer. This should ring alarm bells as any kosher seller would be happy with the standard paypal payment. If you pay via Paypal goods and services you are protected in case anything goes wrong with your transaction, from the item not arriving to it turning out to be fake, you will receive help to sort out the problem. If you pay via Paypal friends and family this is counted as a ‘gift’ and you are not covered for your purchase. If you have any issues it’s worth opening an eBay case too and their customer services team will get involved if necesecary to help you out.

5. Be amicable and polite. If things do go wrong and you end up with a fake, always try to sort it out with the seller first, and always be polite. Deal with them via ebay messages (so eBay have a record of your conversations) and if you can’t come to a resolution, eBay customer services will intervene and they will have a record of the conversation to refer to. They will be more likely to help you if they can see you’ve been polite and amicable to the seller. Remember that selling counterfeit items is ILLEGAL therefore you shouldn’t be out of pocket for any transaction where you’ve unknowingly bought a fake item. The seller should refund the original sale amount, the original postage amount, and if they want the item back, they should pay for this too. If the seller insists you must pay to post the item back to them, REFUSE. They should cover the cost of this as otherwise you will be out of pocket. If you convey this in a polite manner, the case should end in your favour.

5. And lastly if you’re really not sure, DON’T BUY IT. 😉

Well I hope this has helped! Have you been stung before? Let me know your story if you have xxx

Ten Tips To Stop Your Makeup Melting This Summer!

Posted on August 14, 2014

1. Wear less makeup. Ok I know it sounds obvious, but If your usual foundation is heavy it’s probably a good idea to try avoiding it on particularly hot days, or at least try adding moisturiser to thin it down a bit. Alternatively exchange your foundation completely for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream to keep your skin feeling light.

2. Keep skin clean. In the summer when we sweat more, I can’t tell you how important it is to keep your skin clean. Seriously though, don’t even start applying makeup to uncleansed skin, apart from the fact that your makeup won’t stick very well, just think of the dirt and God knows what else that’s clogging up your pores! Eww! A little tip is if you’re prone to greasy skin, give your skin a quick once over with toner before applying your makeup to remove any extra oiliness and give you the best base for applying your makeup.

3. Use the right products for your skin. If you have oily skin, don’t just throw on any old skincare products, it’s especially important in the summer to use products that suit your skin to help prevent oiliness, such as the Dermalogica  which contains everything you need for your skincare routine.  products come highly recommended too!

4. Don’t forget Primer. It’s important to use primer anyway to give your foundation a base and to make it appear more even, but if you suffer from summer ‘oil slick face’ make sure you choose your primer carefully. I’d recommend you go for a mattifying primer such as Illamasqua’s Matte Primer or one of my personal favourites, MAC’s . These will provide an excellent base for your makeup to sick to.

5. Chillax. If you’re in a rush, hot and flustered when applying your makeup you’re asking for trouble. Makeup does not like very warm skin – hence why it tends to slide off when you get hot! So if you try applying it to hot skin to begin with you’ll find application very difficult and the products are likely to not want to ‘stick’. Take a moment to cool down before applying makeup. Maybe stick your head in the fridge? Or in front of a fan?? Ha ha! A good tip actually is to rub an ice cube over your face before doing your makeup, (dont forget to dry your face after) as well as cooling down your skin it will help close up pores. 🙂

6. Blotting paper – followed by pressed powder. Japanese inspired skincare brand Tatcha make some fabulous  which are perfect for when you’re on the go. They remove excess oil and sweat without disturbing your makeup. A definite must if you have oily skin! You can always followed with a pressed translucent powder to stay extra matte.

7. Use a fixing spray. If you think of fixing spray, most people wit think of Urban Decay’s cult classic All Nighter Setting Spray, which is a great product but it doesn’t come cheap. New kid on the block Makeup Revolution also have an uber affordable Fixing Spray on offer for just a fiver which comes highly recommended.

8. Ditch the Cream products. I’d recommend using powder based products rather than cream based products where you can. Creams tend to slide off the skin so much more easily in hot weather so avoid if you can! Another great option is tints, so maybe change out your cream blusher for a fab tint such as MeMeMe Coral Blossom Lip & Cheek Tint, this is a lovely light coral colour that will suit most skin tones.

9. Choose the right Foundation. Personally I love a dewy / satin finish foundation, but then my skin is on the dry side so this seems to work for me. On the other hand if you have oily skin a dewy finish can leave you looking sweaty and shiny, so In that case I’d definitely opt for a matte finish product, such as NARS . I have a friend that swears by it. It’s sheer enough for a light matte coverage but also easily buildable.

10. Keep it waterproof. Opt for waterproof versions of everything you can get your hands on – mascara and eyeliners are the most obvious choices. My favourite mascara  also comes in a handy waterproof version which I’d highly recommend! Their  are also my go-to eyeliner of choice too, they’re crease resistant and completely waterproof so there’s no fear of smudging or panda eyes!

That’s about all I can think of to keep your makeup put this summer, I’d love to hear if you have any other hints or tips? xxx

Hi Guys!

Well it looks like the peeps at MAC have been busy bees again, this time they’re working with Brooke Shields on a brand new collaboration! Now if you don’t know who Brooke Shields is, it’s probably because you’re too young! She was an uber top model in the 80’s, famous for her Calvin Klein jeans advert, and went on to have many film and TV roles since.

Well, just look at the packaging! From a distance I wouldn’t have guessed it was MAC! I love how they bring out new packaging with different collection that completely transforms the look of the products, whilst not compromising the brand image or product quality. “I have been a fan of MAC Cosmetics for ages. I love MAC’s collections and visuals – it’s a fun brand. This was such a different project for me because I was not just the model or the face of the collection; MAC really wanted my input and wanted this to be MY collection. I was involved in every single step of the process.” – Brook Shields.

Summer Brights! The Best of Coral and Orange Lip Products!

summer-bright-lipsticks

Hi Guys!

I thought i’d put together a little post to show you all my favourite bright lippies, I’ve got quite a few  and it was hard to cut them down, but I’ve managed to get together four orange shades and four corals for this post, I’ll then put together another post shortly with the pinks and reds!

best-orange-lipsticks-2

So first up I’ve put the Oranges together… |I used to be scared of orange lipstick, any orange makeup for that matter, but as soon as I saw MAC’s Morange I knew I needed to try it, and now I’ve got a bit of a collection going on!

1. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in 040 Rendesvous. If you want to try an orange lip but you’re a bit unsure as I was, this is a great ‘starter’ orange, it’ll just give your lips a hint of colour. It’s moisturising too!

2. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 912 Electric Orange. As soon as I saw this I was like WOW! This is such a true bright tangerine colour, and I love Maybelline lipsticks as a cheaper alternative to MAC. I highly recommend this if you want a high street priced tangerine orange.

3. Sleek Pout Paint in 155 Lava. Again another super bright colour, this is definitely the most intense of the lot! The pigmentation in this product is amazing, it’s like OCC Lip Tars but without the price tag! Sleek also offer a great range of colours in their Pout Paint’s so there should be something to suit everyone if you’re not a fan of orange!

4. MAC Morange. Morange has to be my favourite orange at the moment. It’s just so intense!  The formula is spot on too, it’s creamy and forgiving on the lips, giving you fab even coverage. It also has the most amazing colour payoff that lasts for hours on end. If you’re an orange lip fan you need this in your life!

And now the lovely Corals!

S&G Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Fuchsia-Ristic. Now I’m gonna be honest, I didnt actually know I had this until I was rummaging throughout my makeup drawers and spotted it! I think I must have bought it from a blog sale a while ago and completely forgot! Oops! Anyway, this is a pretty pinkish coral gloss which is great for a hint of colour!

Lord & Berry Shining Lipstick in Fire. I’ve recently rediscovered this from the back of my stash. Fire is  an intense reddish coral with a semi-matte finish. This is a fab statement colour if you wanted something slightly different from a true red.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 910 Shocking Coral. This is such a pretty, easy to wear colour. Maybelline’s Color Sensation Lipsticks are really underrated, they have a fab formula and are really affordable.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Coral Ahh my new favourite lipstick of all time, this really is the most perfect coral shade, click on the link to take a look at it on me and you’ll see what I mean! This is the most perfect true coral colour, and the formula is EVERYTHING. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the Melted Lipsticks!

I’d love to hear which coral or orange lip shades you’re loving this summer? xxx

Rihanna for MAC Viva Glam 2! | Hit or Miss??

Posted on August 5, 2014

rihanna viva glam 2

Hi Guys!

Well as most of you have problably already seen, hot of the press is Rihanna’s newest MAC collab, this time it’s Viva Glam 2, featuring a lipstick and lip glass. The lipstick is described as a warm mauve with silver frost, and the gloss is a cool mauve with red frost.

Rihanna brings a bold look to her fierce NEW VIVA GLAM campaign, accenting her fearless, confident style with new shades of frosted metallic mauve lipstick and lipglass, in a velvety soft packaging featuring her signature. Also available, the modern red hues of Rihanna’s original Viva Glam collection.

So, the lipstick. Metallic mauve anyone? This shade really doesn’t inspire me at all I’m afraid. Yes Rihanna looks amazing with neon green Grinch-esque hair and a frosted brown lipstick that’s been time warped from the 90’s, just like she would look amazing in a bin bag. Would us mere mortals appear quite as fabulous though? I very much doubt it. So yeah, I’m not really a fan of the lipstick. I just don’t think it’s a very wearable colour at all. The Lip glass on the other hand does interest me. I like the look of it, it looks lilac-y and sparkly and pretty. You know I’m a fan of a purple lippy so this does appeal! The fact that it has a red frost does concern me though, I’m really not sure how that will look when you wear it but I’m keen to find out!

Overall I think I’m going to keep an open mind about these products, what do you think though? Are these lippies a hit or a miss for you? xx

MAC The Simpsons Collection – Coming Soon!

MAC-Simpsons-Collection

Hi Guys!

You may have heard on the grapevine that MAC’s next limited edition collection is going to be in collaboration with The Simpsons! Well it’s true! I’ve been snooping around and MAC appear to be keeping this one pretty quiet, with the only official image released being the one above. You can see there’s definitely going to be some bold and bright colours going on! I also know it’s a ten piece collection, so watch this space!

MAC have also provided an official quote from Marge… so we know what a couple of the shades are called at least!

I must say that Lisa’s Spikes really works well with my skin tone and of course, Beehive Blue complements my hair perfectly” says Marge.

The MAC The Simpsons Collection launches at Comic Con San Diego on July 26th and will be available from August 28th online and September 4th to purchase in store.

P.S I’ve also been stalking Instagram for some other pics – take a look  to see what I found!

Do you think you’ll be grabbing some products from this collection?
