Guess what arrived today? (well yesterday actually, but I picked it up from my parents house today) It’s my MAC order! YAY!! I waited patiently on Thursday for the RiRi Hearts MAC collection to be live, and quickly got my order in before it sold out! I ordered lipsticks in Talk That Talk and Nude, and the Hibiscuss Kiss Powder Blush Duo.
I’m going to review Talk That Talk today, as this was the main reason for my purchase. I have a real thing for purple lipsticks so I was really excited when I saw this would be part of the new collection. Talk That Talk is a retro matte lipstick in a dark plum shade, and cost £16.50.
The packaging is gorgeous, I love the metallic bullet casing, it looks and feels expensive.
The lipstick itself has Rihanna’s signature embossed in it.
My verdict – I love the colour as it looks in the bullet but sadly not so much on my lips. My lips tend to be on the dry side as you can probably tell below, and the matte lipstick just didn’t agree. It looked uneven and patchy, even with multiple layers on, and managed to highlight every imperfection!
I love the colour of this lipstick so I’m pretty disappointed. I’d definitely recommend your lips are moisturised to perfection before trying this one!
While I was testing the products I thought I’d offer a comparison with a similar coloured lipstick I already have. Sleek’s True Colour Sheen Lipstick in is almost spot on for a bullet colour match, and at only £4.99 it’s less than a third of the price of the MAC.
The Sleek lipstick did come in a box which I no longer have as I bought it a while ago. The casing isn’t as special as MAC’s but I think that’s to be expected considering the price difference.
I’d say the colour of the bullet looks marginally lighter compared to the MAC.
Mulberry is described as a deep blackberry colour, and has a sheen finish rather than matte.
Considering the bullet looks slightly lighter on the Sleek, I think the sleek lipstick actually offers a deeper, richer colour. I definitely preferred the finish on my lips using the Sleek lipstick. The finish looked more even and the colour was more intense. The lipstick was also more comfortable to wear and less drying.
(sorry about the slightly wonky applications, never apply lipstick with a two year old running round your legs!!)
So that’s my review! Slightly disappointed about my new purchase but nevermind, next up will be the Nude lipstick so fingers crossed for that one!
I hope you enjoyed my review and found it useful! I’d love to hear if you purchased from the new Riri collection? xxx
