Charlotte Tilbury Book of Makeup Magic – Contents Revealed!

Posted on November 23, 2015

Hi Guys!

So, in the name of the blog, I decided to open my Charlotte Tilbury Book of Makeup Magic Advent calendar early. This is totally for your benefit of course… 🙂 so you can see exactly what you’d be getting should you wish to purchase.

I’ve had The Book of Makeup Magic for a good few weeks now, and I must admit I did initially experience a bit of buyers remorse. I mean £150 for an advent calendar really is crazy money. So I stuffed it away in a drawer, partly so stop my feelings of guilt and partly to stop me peeking in the boxes.

I’m SO glad I’ve opened it up though, I feel much better about my purchase now – the contents are AMAZING.

Ok so the ‘book’ opens up to reveal 12 glossy burgundy boxes. I initially thought these were drawers, but nope, they’re different sized boxes stacked upon one another.

Each box also has the Charlotte Tilbury logo embossed in gold one one side, and the contents printed on the back.

So here are the goods! Eleven mini CT makeup and skincare products, as well as one full sized Matte Revolution lipstick. Now if you want to be pedantic, you could work it out that the lipstick is worth £23, and the mini lipstick is worth £9.66, leaving £117.34 for the rest of the products, making them £11.73 each excluding packaging.

Now if I was buying these individually, would I pay £11+ per mini product? No I probably wouldn’t to be honest. But collectively as a set, it’s such a special thing to have – wether you treat yourself or manage to get someone to buy you one, I do actually think it’s worth it.

Anyway, this is exactly what’s included –

  1. Goddess Skin Clay Mask, 15ml.
  2. Charlotte’s Magic Cream, 15ml.
  3. Wonderglow, 15ml.
  4. Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise Eye Shadow mini in On the Prowl.
  5. Rock ‘N’ Kohl mini eyeliner in Supernova.
  6. Lip Magic Balm, 5ml.
  7. Mini K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Penelope Pink.
  8. Matte Revolution Lipstick (full size) in Red Carpet Red.
  9. Super Model Body, 15ml.
  10. Take it all off Genius Eye Makeup Remover, 30ml.
  11. Multi Miracle Glow Cleanser, Mask & Balm, 15ml.
  12. Magic Night Cream, 15ml.

The full sized Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red is just beautiful. I think I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this over the Christmas period!

Some of the products I’m most excited about trying though are the Rock ‘N’ Kohl mini eyeliner in Supernova, just because I’m a bit of an eyeliner fanatic, and it looks like such a gorgeous deep sparkly purple colour. The Lip Magic Balm because I suffer with dry lips and I’ve heard this is fantastic, and the brand new not yet released Magic Night Cream. This won’t be available to buy until January, so those that pick up the advent calendar will be some of the first to get their hands on it.

I know it was a lot of money, but overall I’m really glad that I bought this advent calendar, I can’t wait to try the products each day! I might do two mini roundups, one half way through and one at the end to let you know my thoughts on each of the products 🙂

So what do you think? Was this a good purchase? I”d love to hear your thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

The Autumn Beauty Edit

Posted on November 17, 2015

Hi Guys!

I’m not sure where the year has gone but somehow it’s already mid November. We’re in the full swing of autumn, and over recent weeks I’ve noticed the makeup products I’ve been reaching for have gradually been changing. This wasn’t a conscious decision at all. I’ve just recently noticed the colours in my makeup bag have definitely changed with the season.

So I thought I’d gather together some of my current favourite seasonal shades to show you, some are old favourites, and some are brand new discoveries which I love. Enjoy!

Firstly, let’s look at the lipsticks! I just love autumnal browns, pinks and mauves. These shades of lipstick can easily take your look from summer to autumn with just one product. Here are some of my favourites –

  • Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Kin. This beautiful shade is from the Earth collection, it’s an intense burnt red shade that reminds me of autumn leaves. I really need to pick up more Illamasqua lipsticks because the formula really is excellent, you get fantastic pigmentation with a long-lasting smooth satin finish.
  • Tom Ford Lips & Boys in Guillermo – Ahh Tom Ford, the king of lipsticks. Guillermo is one of the shades I picked up when the Lips & Boys collection first launched, and it’s just beautiful. I love wearing this with a full on smokey eye for an evening vampy look.
  • MAC Lipstick in Fast Play – I love this shade so much, it’s completely underrated in my opinion. I actually discovered it when I was searching for the perfect lip shade to wear to my wedding. You can see my original post here for more pics.
  • – Clarins’ Jolie Rouge lipsticks have a beatufilly creamy and silky formula, with a semi sheer finish. Tea Rose is a pretty light pink that’s really easy to wear. This is a fantastic go-to everyday lipstick.

Next I have a selection of pencils, including three eyeliners and a lipliner…

  • – I actually received this mini eyeliner free with a Sephora order a while ago, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. Grey is a fantastic alternative to black eyeliner for a softer look, and Urban Decay’s Glide on Pencils are some of the best around.
  • – Ever since visiting the Pixi store in London for an event a few months ago, I’ve been loving their products and picked up a few more of their amazing Silky Eye Pens. The shade Deep Plum is a lovely shade that catches the light beautifully giving a hint of metallic purple.
  • Kiko Colour Definition Eyeliner in 02 – If you’re a regular reader you’ll know I love Kiko products, and this beautiful and unusual shade of eyeliner is from the Rebel Romantic collection. Shade 02 is a deep warm brown, with the tiniest hint of reddish purple. It’s a creamy matte shade that’s perfect for wearing every day.
  • Borneo is a lovely warm lipliner which I’ve found myself reaching for lately. It has creamy formula that perfectly defines the lips while preventing lipstick from bleeding and feathering throughout the day.

And a couple more beautiful lip colours…

  • – This is my first and only Kat Von D product, and I’m a little bit in love. Lolita is a stunning mauve that’s perfect for the 90’s lip trend that’s so popular at the moment, and it really is ever lasting! Make sure your lips are well prepared before application and this will literally last all day.
  • Urban Decay Revolution High Colour Lipgloss in Liar – Another recent discovery, the Urban Decay High Colour Lipglosses really give fantastic intense pigmentation for a gloss. The shade Liar is a gorgeous muted mid pink. It’s currently living in my bag as I wear it all the time!

And lastly the beautiful Eye of Horus Sheba Mystical Goddess Eye Shadow Palette –

I haven’t used Eye of Horus products for a while, but I have a few of their eyeliner pencils which are fantastic, so I was excited to see what their brand new eyeshadow palettes were like. And as expected, I wasn’t disappointed!

The gorgeous Mystical Goddess Eyeshadow Palette contains three intense metallic shades in a slimline cardboard palette with a double ended brush. The shades are: Artifact – ivory with golden nude undertones, Enchantress – bronzed shimmering nude and Royal Abyss – a deep royal plum.

They all have a stunning high metallic finish, and are soft, blendable and easy to work with. They can also be applied wet if you wish for a more intense look. I really am very impressed with this palette, I’ll be getting a lot of use out of it over the coming months no doubt!

I’d love to hear if you have any of these products? And what your go-to beauty products are for autumn?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

The Perfect Products for Halloween Nails & Lips

Posted on October 27, 2015

Hi Guys!

Well Halloween is officially upon us, and luckily for me Fred has decided he wants to wear last year’s Spider Man outfit, so he’s sorted already! 🙂

For those of you not going for a full on blood and gore look this weekend, and are looking for something a bit more subtle, I thought I’d gather together a few beauty products together which would be the perfect addition to any halloween outfit…

First up we have the Morgan Taylor Rocky Horror Picture Show Mini Pack (£14.99)

This fab little set was created especially to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greatest cult film and longest running theatrical release of all time – The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This pack of four mini 5ml polishes contains three top selling Morgan Taylor colours as well as a glow in the dark top coat. The colour shades are All White Now (bright white), Pretty Woman (red crème), and Little Black Dress (black crème).

The polishes are definitely some of the best I’ve ever used in terms of consistency. I nearly had full opacity with just one coat, with is unbelievably impressive for the white shade especially. I ended up using two coats for the above swatches, and (apart from the white, which I messed up a bit) they all have a gorgeous high gloss finish.

Next we have the Makeup Revolution Unicorns Unite Lipstick Collection (£1.00 each or all five for £4.00)

Makeup Revolution are the perfect brand to go for if you need to pick up some crazy coloured cosmetics on a budget. The new Unicorns Unite lipstick collection contains five spooky lipstick shades –

  • Pink Myth – a bright coral pink with a creme finish.
  • Throne – a muted lavender shade with a pearlised finish.
  • Horn of Magic – a light sea green with a pearlised finish.
  • Legend – a muted grey toned lavender with a paralysed finish.
  • Magical – a bright blue toned purple with a slight pearlised sheen.

The lipsticks aren’t quite as pigmented as I’d hoped to be honest, but they still they do the job, and for only £1.00 each (or less if you buy them as a set) these could be just what you’re looking for to complete your Halloween look this weekend.

I’ve also selected a few of my favourite darker shades of nail polish –

  • Essie ‘for the twill of it’ – an iridescent pearl shade with pearl with pink, violet and green shimmer (£8.95)
  • Illamasqua ‘Element’ – a mid pearlised taupe grey (£14.50)
  • Essie ‘after school boy blazer ‘ – a deep midnight navy blue (£8.95)

All of these polishes are fabulous in terms of consistency as well as ease of application. I think Essie’s after school boy blazer has to be my favourite though, it’s a beautiful, almost black midnight blue shade.

I also have this awesome Halloween inspired transfer nail plate from Mo You (from £4.99)

If you haven’t heard of Mo You before, they offer a massive selection of nail products, including stamping and nail plate sets, nail tools, nail art products, and nail polishes. If you’re into nail art, you should definitely check these guys out!

And lastly I have these super cute glow in the dark  (£7.99)

I hope some of these products have inspired you for this weekend! Do you have you’re halloween outfit planned yet? I hope you enjoyed my post!

L’Oreal Paris Exclusive La Vie En Rose Lipstick Collection

Posted on October 16, 2015

Hi Guys!

Happy Friday! The weather is miserable and cold here, but at least I have some gorgeous new L’Oreal lippies to show you today 🙂 This is the beautiful new La Vie En Rose collection, which literally translates to Life in Pink!

The La Vie En Rose collection contains five new lipstick shades, of which I have four. This is L’Oreal’s latest lipstick collection inspired by world famous celebrities and film stars.

So let’s take a look at the shades –

  • Blake – a bright mid coral pink shade, perfect for cooler fair complexions.
  • Eva – a deeper mauve pink shade, that works well on darker skin with warm undertones.
  • Naomi – a light muted peach pink, that brightens up fair to very fair complexions.
  • Helen – a sheer nude iridescent pink shade, perfect for fair skin tones.

I love that these lipsticks have been created specifically with different skin tones and colourings in mind – if you’re not sure which you are, and which shade would suit you the best, I’d recommend looking at the above celebrities and seeing who your skin tone is most similar to.

The lipsticks come in a fantastic range of shades, from a very light iridescent shimmer (Helen) to a bright coral pink (Blake). They have a lovely creamy satin finish, which is comfortable to wear without drying the lips. The pigmentation isn’t the most intense that I’ve ever seen, but I think that makes these lipsticks perfect for every day wear as they’re not too intense. I managed to get a good three hours wear out of Blake (my favourite shade) and that included eating a biscuit and drinking a brew!

Now I know packaging doesn’t actually mean anything in terms of how well a product performs, but I wanted to mention the packaging because it really is top quality for a high street brand. The cases are matte black, with each celebrities’ signature printed on in gold, and the lipsticks have gold bullet casings (is that the right word?) with L’Oreal embossed into the side. The beautiful packaging really does make these lipsticks extra special!

So overall I’m really impressed with this collection, from the idea of the range, to the packaging and of course the actual lipsticks. These lipsticks are perfect for every day wear, and affordable enough so you can pick up a couple without and makeup buying ‘guilt’! (You know what I mean, we’ve all had it!)

The L’Oréal Paris Exclusive Pinks collection is available now from , at £6.99 each.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks

Posted on September 8, 2015

Hi Guys!

I know we’re not officially in Autumn just yet (I’m pretty sure it starts on the 23rd?) but the weather here has just taken a turn for the worse – cue cold winds, clouds, drizzle and general dullness. So rather aptly I have some distinctly Autumnal lipstick shades to share with you today.

Urban Decay have recently launched their Matte Revolution lipsticks, which come in a gorgeous array of nine intense, deep and highly pigmented seasonal hues…

If you’re a fan of matte lipsticks like I am, you’ll know they’re usually pretty drying on the lips, and if your lips aren’t in tip-top condition before application, then you’re going to end up with a really uneven finish, with any dry areas being highlighted by the lipstick. I suffer with particularly dry lips so this is always an issue for me and I have to work extra hard to prepare my lips so I get the best finish possible.

Urban Decay’s Mate Revolution Lipsticks are just fabulous though, they have to be one of the creamiest mattes I’ve ever tried. The formula glides on the lips with ease, it’s comfortable to wear and completely non-drying. The finished effect is an even layer velvety matte colour, with amazing pigmentation that lasts for hours without taking the moisture out if your lips.

Left to right –

  • Blackmail – this looks pretty much black in the tube, but it’s actually a super deep and rich burgundy / wine shade. It brings back memories of a ‘Black Cherry’ shade of lipstick I had in the early 90’s.
  • 1993 – this is a very ‘on-trend’ lip shade, very 90’s, very Kylie Jenner. This is the perfect muted brown shade for a nude lip that packs a punch.
  • After Dark – a gorgeous mid berry pink, with a hint of violet shimmer.
  • Tilt – the brightest coral / orange shade I’ve probably ever seen. This colour is not for the faint hearted!

These lipsticks just ooze quality – from the classic Urban Decay metallic purple box, to the black gloss and purple tube they come housed in. The lipsticks themselves are also pretty weighty – I’m just beyond impressed.

And of course the swatches! You can see the lipstick applies really cleanly and evenly, and they’re just lovely to use and wear. I have no complaints about these lipsticks whatsoever! If you’re a fan of a matte lip, you NEED to try these out, I really can’t recommend them enough.

Urban Decay’s Matte Revolution Lipsticks are £15.50 each, available now from Urban Decay.

So what do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts! I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Tarte Cosmetics Miracles from the Amazon Collection

Posted on September 4, 2015

Hi Guys!

At last it’s Friday, it’s been a long and hectic week with preparing for Freddy’s first day of school yesterday, but here we are at the end of the week, my son is officially a school pupil, and I can’t wait for the weekend!

Today I have the gorgeous Tarte Cosmetics Miracles from the Amazon 5-piece Collection to share with you. This stunning set includes a lovely makeup bag, finished with purple and gold thread – it’s also a decent size so you can fit lots of products in there, as well as a beautiful Amazonian Clay Eye and Cheek Palette, a dual ended eyeshadow brush, a Liquid Lip Shine and a Smart Mascara.

This impressive collection is only £34.00 from QVC, which is a complete bargain for four quality products as well as a makeup bag.

Tarte’s Limited Edition Palette includes 6 pretty Amazonian clay-infused neutral shades in Pink Beyond – a dusky pink, Taupe For The Best – a shimmery taupe, Dreams Plum True – a dark matte plummy purple, Out of this Pearl – a shimmery golden beige, Thistle Be The Day – a matte taupe, and Paint the Brown – a matte chocolate brown, as well as a universally flattering blush in Talented – a mid peachy pink shade.

This palette is just so pretty and unusual, it comes in a high shine metallic gold case with a full sized mirror in the lid, and kind of giraffe / tile print in shades of purple on the lid.

And here are the swatches. Over all the shadows are great, but my only niggle is the shade Pink Beyond, this is the light pink swatch closest to my wrist and you can hardly see it. Yes it is a very light colour, but it just didn’t have very good pigmentation and was pretty hard to work with. That said, all the other shades were fab, the shimmery taupe called Taupe for the Best is definitely my favourite, it’s a beautiful high-shimmer taupe that will suit most complexions.

Ok so let’s take a look at what else is included in the set!

There’s a dual-ended eyeshadow brush, which has Tarte’s signature wood effect handle with a gold metallic finish at each brush end for a luxe feel. The brush fibres are soft yet firm, and perfect for packing on colour and blending.

There’s also a LipSurgence Liquid Lip Shine included in shade Exquisite. This is a new shade that I understand is exclusive to this set. Exquisite is a lovely pink berry shade that comes out quite sheer on application, it has a glossy finish that is slightly tacky on the lips, but very confirmable to wear. You can see from the swatch above that this product definitely has eliments of a lip stain. It actually combines the benefits of a stain with a gloss, for a really pretty, glossy effect on the lips.

And lastly, the Smart Mascara – this is Tarte’s must-have mascara which instinctively treats your unique lash concerns, working overtime to keep lashes hydrated, intact, healthier, and stronger, whilst also delivering the appearance of more voluminous lashes. Again this comes in Tarte’s signature wooden casing, with the purple giraffe print featuring on the lid to tie it into the set.

Well over all I’m really impressed. I love the shades in the palette – I’ll definitely use these regularly, and the gloss and mascara are just perfect for every day wear. This gorgeous set would also make a wonderful gift for makeup lovers 🙂

5 Things You Could Buy For The Price of a Louboutin Lipstick

Posted on September 2, 2015

louboutin lipsticks

Hi Guys!

If you’re into fancy schmancy, ridiculously beautiful and ahem, expensive beauty products, you’ve probably heard about the much anticipated Christian Louboutin Lipsticks – which have just launched yesterday at .

Following on from Christian Louboutin’s nail polish launch last year, his new lipstick collection includes 36 shades in three unique textures – opulent Silky Satin, luminous Sheer Voile and rich Velvet Matte – all wrapped up in a stunning jewel-like case.

At an eye-watering and purse-clenching price of £60 each, they aren’t cheap by anyone standards… but I still really want one! That said, if you can think of any higher priced lipsticks that aren’t a limited edition, (for research purposes of course) please do let me know! louboutin lipstick packaging Just look at them though… (insert heart eyed emojis here) So, while I’ve been lusting away after these beauties telling myself I DO NOT NEED A £60 LIPSTICK, that I know I won’t actually use as I won’t want to ‘ruin’ it, I’ve been thinking of what other gorgeous goodies could I could pick up for the same price as a Loubie lippie…

ted baker Rhianna Technicolour Bloom Tshirt

This gorgeous  from Ted Baker has recently caught my eye. I love the look and style of Ted Baker clothing, but have never actually bought anything, mostly due to the price but also because they don’t cater for my size now. I love their digital prints, and this floral t-shirt is just so pretty. It’ll definitely be on my post weight-loss wish list!

Daisy Dixon Rose Gold Kate Watch

You know I have a thing about rose gold, well this  from ASOS is also on my wish list. I don’t need another watch – and who actually uses watches these days as anything other than an accessory? Long gone are the days where we would check our wrists to find out the time, watches are more about fashion than function now. So this is definitely not a necessity, but it’s still on my want list none the less.

diptyque la redoute candle

And what about this stunning  from Liberty? If I had the money, I really could manage to spend silly money on candles, but as it stands I’ll stick with my affordable favourites from Yankee and Flamingo! This beauty from Diptyque is just so pretty though, with a striking black and white marbled effect, it would be perfect to accessory for any home. The scent of the candle is spicy and floral, but I must admit, I haven’t actually tried it myself, if you’ve tried this candle and you’d recommend it please do let me know!

marc jacobs daisy dream

I couldn’t complete this list without a perfume, could I? I absolutely love , and this is one of the few fragrances I really love that I don’t actually own.

kate spade cedar street slim bee bag

And lastly, what about this sweet, classic Cedar Street Slim Bee Purse from Kate Spade? I have my eye on most things on the Kate Spade site right now, but this super sweet wallet just ticks all the boxes for me. It’s simple and sophisticated whilst being affordable – what’s not to love?

So I guess the question is, would I rather fork out £60 for a Loubie lippie, or would I rather have one of these lovely things instead. I’m completely undecided! What would you do?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
