MAC Cosmetics X Chris Chang Collection

Posted on May 10, 2016

Hi Guys!

If you’re a MAC Cosmetics fan, it’s most likely you’ll have heard about the highly anticipated MAC X Chris Chang collection by now… if you’re not aware of Chris Chang, she’s a Chinese fashion designer obsessed with colour – she pretty much lives and breathes the stuff, and because of this she really is the perfect match for a MAC collaboration.

China’s most outlandish fashion designer puts an acid-soaked twist on her modern M·A·C collection, featuring a vivid kaleidoscope of cutting-edge colour, inspired by the ancient Chinese art form Kunqu. Surreal hues of Lipstick, Cream Colour Base and Eye Shadow, and uniquely designed packaging, are saturated with her signature dramatic flair.

Her limited edition collection for MAC contains a decent sized range of products, including Lipsticks (with lustre and matte finishes), Eyeshadows, a Fluid Line Eyeliner, Cream Colour Bases, and a Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Pressed Powder.

mac-chris-chang-collection-review

Poesia, the Chinese fashion designer’s outrageously-hued clothing line, embraces maximalism to the extreme and a kaleidoscopic point-of-view that’s splashed across her garments in ways that are artful, chaotic, frenzied, stunningly beautiful and never without humour. Her penchant for colour borders on the obsessive, although never seeming tacky or ridiculous. Similarly, her M·A·C collection leaves no hue left behind, a brilliant palette inspired by China’s oldest performance art form, Kunqu…on an acid trip.

So firstly, can we just take a moment to appreciate the packaging? …No your eyes aren’t going funny, and no my camera isn’t blurry… the packaging for this collection is just plain crazy! There’s a collage mishmash of bright and outlandish shapes and patterns covering this collection; flowers, figures, wildlife and who knows what else features on the outer casings of the products. Parts are in focus, yet many have blurry edges, making you look twice to check if your eyes are playing tricks on you. Described as hallucinogenic, crazy and trippy, this is possibly the maddest packaging I’ve seen yet in a MAC collection – and I love it!

mac-chris-chang-eyeshadow-review

mac-chris-chang-eyeshadow-swatches

Ok so on to the products! Lets start with the rather striking single Eyeshadows (£14.00), there are four brighter than bright matte shades in the collection – Royal Woo – a lemony pastel yellow, Pale Pipa – a pastel turquoise, Electric Mandarin – a neon mandarin orange, and Mu Mu Bloom – a hot pink.

I have Pale Pipa and Electric Mandarin, and as expected both shades are intensely pigmented, super soft and easy to blend. Pale Pipa has more of a powdery matte finish and Electric Mandarin is slightly more satin, both give excellent colour payoff, and though I’m not personally keen on Pale Pipa as a shade, I think I’ll get a lot of use out of Electric Mandarin over the Summer months.

mac-x-chris-chang-swatches

Next we have a large selection of Lipsticks, and Cream Colour Bases. The Lipsticks (£17.00) also come in a range of bright not-to-be-missed pastel shades –

  • Gold XIX  – lemony pastel yellow with a lustre finish
  • Cloud Gait – pastel turquoise with a lustre finish.
  • Plum Princess – pastel plummy lavender with a matte finish.
  • Dddevilish – pastel hotel pink with a matte finish.
  • Vermillion Vee – clean true red with a matte finish.

And the Cream Colour Bases (£17.50) come in three intense shades –

  • Peony Pavilion – hot pink.
  • Rick Coral – orange.
  • Sockit Xiqu – dirty lavender.

I have the lipstick in Dddevilish, an intense and bright blue toned pink with a matte finish. I know this shade won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I absolutely love it! The colour is true and intense, and I love it especially because MAC lipsticks have one of the best matte formulas around, which won’t dry out your lips. I also have the Cream Colour Base in Peony Pavilion, which is again an intense hot pink – very similar in shade to Dddevillish. This is super creamy and easy to blend out and work with. You can wear this applied very lightly for a sheer touch of colour, or build up the product for a more intense look.

mac-chris-chang-Prep-Prime-Transparent-Finishing-Powder-review

And lastly the Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Compact (£22.50) – this is described as a silky, colourless finishing powder that reduces shine – and that description really is spot on. Though whiter than white, this powder is colourless when applied – hence no swatches, as you can’t really see it on the skin. It gives a velvety soft finish, while helping to set your makeup. This is the perfect setting powder for controlling shine, and giving skin a super smooth and even finish.

chris-chang-mac-collection

As I mentioned earlier in the post, these products, and the collection as a whole won’t be to everyones taste – but there are still a few products and shades in there that would suit those that are a bit fearful of outlandish colours. The Lipstick in Vermillion Vee looks like the most perfect true red shade – of which I believe everybody should own, and the Translucent Powder is just gorgeous, a definite must have for your summer makeup bag! I love how this collection knows no bounds or limits, the colours Chang has chosen dare you to experiment and have fun – which really is is what makeup is all about.

The limited edition MAC X Chris Chang Collection will launch in the UK on June 16th, at MAC’s Carnaby and Covent Garden Stores and online at MAC.

Clarins-Limited-Edition-Sunkissed-Summer-Makeup-Collection

Hi Guys!

Clarins have been bringing out some fantastic products of late (check out their amazing new Boosters and Multi Active Day and Night Creams) and now their Sunkissed Summer makeup collection has just landed!

Look beautiful all summer long with Clarins Sunkissed make-up collection. Whether you are tanning by the pool or going out in the warm summer evenings, Clarins creates a flawless complexion, sparkling eyes and fresh, fruity lips with these new beauty essentials for summer. The Sunkissed collection presents a harmony of rich gold and bronze shades to illuminate, giving a glowing complexion.

The collection contains everything you need for beautiful fresh summer looks – with a Bronzing & Blush Compact, a selection of Shimmering Waterproof Eye Colours, a Lip Oil, Fix’ Makeup Setting Spray, and Fix’ Mascara…

The Waterproof Eyeshadow Shimmering Cream Colours (£18.00) are just so beautiful. They come in a selection of four shimmering, easy to wear neutral shades – 01 Golden Peach, 02 Golden Sand (above bottom), 03 Silver Taupe (above top) and 04 Copper Brown.

These cream eyeshadows have a super soft and easily blendable formula which glides beautifully on the eyelids. They include fine pearl particles to provide shimmering colour, and bitter orange tree wax to help create a protective shield against water and humidity, ensuring a long-lasting waterproof hold. If you’re looking for some easy to wear, waterproof eyeshadows for the summer, I’d highly recommend trying these out.

clarins-Instant-Light-Lip-Comfort-Oil-review

clarins-instant-light-lip-comfort-oil-swatch

Next is the Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 03 Red Berry (£19.00) – this is a wonderfully juicy and sweetly scented lip oil, with a hint of colour that leaves lips with a light berry tint. The first thing that hit me about this product was the smell, it’s amazingly sweet and reminds me of something – sweets probably! – from when I was a child. It really does smell good enough to eat! It also has a completely non-sticky formula, containing nourishing hazelnut oil, annatto oil and organic jojoba oils, to leave lips feeling nourished and comfortable for hours on end.

And the Double Fix’ Mascara (£20.00) – now with a new and improved formula, this is basically a clear top coat made specifically to make your current favourite mascara waterproof – you can also wear on its own for super glossy lashses, or use it as as an invisible brow tamer. Again, this formula is enriched with bitter orange tree wax, to help create a protective, water repellent shield, ensuring long-lasting, waterproof results.

clarins-Fix-MakeUp-review

And lastly the Fix’ Make-Up (£24.00) – now I’m really hoping this will be the answer to all my problems where it comes to my makeup melting off my face in the summer. This is a super fine and delicate mist with cooling properties, it hydrates the skin whilst setting your makeup, by forming an invisible, fixing veil over the face.

The formula contains Aloe vera for maintaining skin hydration, Allantoin to sooth, and Clarins exclusive Anti-Pollution Complex to protect the skin from external aggressors. Fix’ Make-Up also has a lovely light scent of grapefruit extract and organic rose floral water to refresh both the skin and senses.

Clarins-Limited-Edition-Sunkissed-Summer-Makeup-Collection-review

I think this is such a fabulous collection, the Waterproof Eye Colours and Fix’ Make-Up are definitely my favourites – I just need to get my hands on the Bronzing & Blush Compact now!

New For Spring: Clinique Pop Artistry Collection

Posted on April 22, 2016

clinique-pop-artistry-collection

Hi Guys!

Happy Friday 🙂 I have some gorgeous products from Clinique’s latest Pop Artisty collection to share with you today – Pop Artistry is all about pops of colour for eyes, lips and cheeks, including new Pop Lacquers, Glazes, Oils and Eye Shadows. The newest lip additions to the Clinique Pop collection range from pretty pops of sheer colour to full coverage and high shine, creating endless ways to make lips pop!

clinique-pop-artistry-collection-review

Left to right –

  • Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in 09 Nude Pop
  • Pop Lip Colour + Primer Rouge Intense in 02 Bare Pop
  • Pop Lip Colour + Primer Rouge Intense in 01 Nude Pop
  • Pop Lip Colour + Primer Rouge Intense in 04 Beige Pop
  • Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Colour + Primer in 07 Sugar Plum Pop

You can see there are three different types of lip product here – a gloss, a lipstick, and a sheer lipstick. Starting with the gloss – the (£16.00) – this is a wonderfully thick lacquer with high intensity colour. I love that it moisturises lips leaving them feeling silky smooth, without any stickiness whatsoever. This product comes in 10 shades from creamy nudes to bold red, sweetheart pink and deep purple.

The (£16.00) includes a massive selection of 24 shades, again ranging from nudes to more intense pinks and reds. The Pop Lip Colour + Primer lipsticks have a beautiful lightweight formula that applies easily with one sweep, leaving bold colour with a velvet finish. Clinique promise this product will keep lips comfortably moisturised for up to 8 hours – I haven’t worn them for that long myself but they definitely make my lips feel supple and moisturised, which is always a winner if you’re prone to dry lips like I am.

And the Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Colour + Primer (£16.00) – this is basically a sheerer version of the above Pop Lip Colours. Perfect for those looking for a touch of colour that isn’t too intense, the formula contains Shea and Murumuru butters to provide superior moisture, and a combination of emollient oils to provide shine, slip and cushion. Inspired by candy, this lineup includes six pretty shades that give a beautiful shine and sheer colour payoff.

And lastly, the simply stunning  (£15.00) – the Lid Pop collection includes a range of eight nude to bold coloured eye shadows with a silky, long-wearing formula, designed to deliver an instant pop of colour. I’m completely in love with 08 Petal Pop, apart from the beautiful almost iridescent peachy sheen this gives, the formula is wonderfully buttery as well as luxuriously lightweight and silky smooth to the touch. This eyeshadow applies like a dream, and this particular shade would also be perfect as a highlighter too.

Overall I’m beyond impressed with these products, I may have to snap up a couple more of the eyeshadows I think!

Illamasqua Metamorph Collection – Vital Palette Review

Posted on April 5, 2016

illamasqua-metamorph-collection

Hi Guys!

It’s been quite a while since Illamasqua have been on the blog, but as soon as I head of their next soon-to-be-launched collection, I had to gather up as much info as I could to share with you guys…

Illamasqua’s Metamorph Collection looks just stunning. It’s quite a slap in the face to today’s Instagram / Youtube culture of heavy bases and over contouring – and that’s exactly what I love about it. I kind of miss seeing ‘real’ fresh looking skin in makeup imagery, and Illamasqua have just reminded me that makeup can be subtle and still very beautiful with this collection.

I love that Illamasqua aren’t afraid to go against the grain of popularity, and challenge the current ‘norm’ in beauty standards. As you can see by the above image, the Metamorph Collection is all about fresh, glowing skin, defined brows, and an all over natural looking, radiant complexion.

illamasqua-metamorph-products

The Metamorph Collection includes:

  • Beyond Powders (£32) – these are gorgeous looking baked highlighting powders created to subtly add a warm hue to the complexion for a natural, radiant glow. The lightweight texture promises to glide onto skin effortlessly creating an illuminated, flawless finish. Available in two shade -OMG (champagne) and Epic (warm bronze).
  • Brow Build (£18.50) – to boost brows and add instant definition. Brow Build offers a long lasting formula with built in fibres to define and enhance existing brows, whilst promoting healthy hair growth to achieve a natural shape. Available in four shades – Amplify (deep slate grey), Thrive (medium brown), Flow (warm brown) and Rise (soft beige).
  • Masquara Gain (£20) – to volumise, lengthen and define lashes with Illamasqua’s innovative colour building formula. Masquara Gain contains an active derived from Walnut to naturally tint lashes, building up the colour intensity building up over two weeks, so even when you’re not wearing Masquara Gain, your lashes will still be blacker than black.
  • Vital Palette (£34) – a combination of four pigmented matte powder eyeshadows, in both warm and cool shades Bubbles (warm peach), Envision (warm brown), Drop (deep mid brown) and Trace (cool grey brown).
  • Nail Veil (£14.50) – a fast-drying, oxygen and water permeable translucent gloss finish varnish, to keep nails healthy and strong. In shades Breathe (pale pink) and Bamboo (pale peach).

illamasqua-vital-palette-review

The Vital Palette is a stunning palette of four matte neutral shade eyeshadows. The matte shadow formula is wonderful as expected from Illamasqua, and the shades are perfect for creating subtle, natural looks –

  • Bubbles – Light matte warm peach.
  • Envision – Warm matte bronze.
  • Drop – Deep mid brown matte.
  • Trace – Cool grey brown matte.

Cohorted February 2016 Beauty Box Review

Posted on February 27, 2016

Cohorted-February-2016-Beauty-Box-Review

Hi Guys,

Cohorted are back on the blog today with their latest subscription box – this one includes a good selection of makeup, skincare and fragrance, and a couple of fantastic brands we haven’t seen from Cohorted before. The February box includes:

  • Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow in 91 Apparition, worth £25.00
  • Bare Minerals Pure Transformation Night Treatment, worth £45.00
  • Dove True Tone Underarm Dark Mark Eraser, worth £11.99
  • Elemis Pro Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks x2, worth £15.00
  • Cargo Cosmetics Long Wear Lip Gloss in Madrid, worth £10.00
  • Marc Jacobs Lola 1.2ml perfume sample, Free added extra.

Total value of box = £106.99.

Ok so the standout product in this box is obviously the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow. As far as I’m aware this is the first time Cohorted have included a Chanel product, and I think it will be very well received. This eyeshadow has a cream to powder formula – so it applies like a cream but feels like a powder on the skin, which I love. And as expected with Chanel, the formula is of superior quality. Shade 91 is actually rather lovely – I say actually because it’s a blue, and blue eyeshadow is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. This is a deep midnight metallic blue though, perfect for a smoky eye.

The Bare Minerals Pure Transformation Night Treatment sounded familiar to me, and then I remembered this was included in Cohorted’s second ever beauty box, nearly a year ago in March 2015. This is a bit of a funny product, and by funny I mean it’s a powder that you apply to your face before going to bed! It’s supposed to reduce the appearance of pores, increase luminosity and even out skin tone, and I must admit I never got round to trying it out. This is definitely on my ‘to-try’ list now so I’ll let you all know how I get on!

The third product on the list is a Dove True Tone Underarm Dark Mark Eraser – now this product isn’t mentioned in the included information booklet, but the Pixi pencil which is mentioned is missing – so I’m guessing Cohorted ran out of Pixi and included this product instead. I must admit I’m a bit disappointed because I love Pixi products, and then pencil in the booklet does look rather lovely. Anyway, this ‘Dark Mark Eraser’ definitely sounds interesting. It’s actually a night cream, that you apply to clean armpits at bedtime, with the aim of brightening your skin. I think this is going to be a bit hit and miss – some people will thick it’s a great idea, and I think others won’t be so keen.

Next is the Cargo Cosmetics Long Wear Lip Gloss in Madrid. This is a sheer mauve shade packed with silver glitter. It’s a nice little gloss that’s non sticky and long lasting.

The Elemis Pro Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks are a welcome addition to this month’s box too. This is a first show from Elemis, which is one of my favourite skincare brands. These masks aim to instantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the eye area looking smoother and feeling moisturised – they sound right up my street.

And lastly the Marc Jacobs Lola 1.2ml mini sample. I’m a bit of a perfume fanatic so fragrance samples are always appreciated here!

Overall this is a great little box, and though I think I’ve had enough of seeing Cargo products for now, it’s great to see Cohorted have included Chanel and Elemis this month. I’d love to see more of these brands in the future!

On that note, I’d love to hear which brands or particular products you’re not so keen on in beauty boxes? And if there are any you’d really love to see?

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Clarins Instant Glow Spring Makeup Collection

Posted on February 2, 2016

clarins-instant-glow-collection

Hi Guys!

Clarins have recently announced the launch of their new Instant Glow Spring Make-up Collection – and as expected, it includes a gorgeous range of products, perfect for the winter to spring transition.

Clarins wants women to glow with confidence this spring. Emerging from the cold winter nights, comes a collection that will brighten eyes with flattering iridescent shades, add a flush of rose to icy cheeks and a swipe of colour and gloss to chapped lips. Indulge in the radiant and blossoming shades of this Instant Glow collection.

clarins-instant-glow-eyeshadow

The Cream to Powder Ombre Iridescent Eyeshadow in 06 Silver Green (£19.00) is just stunning. I already have a few of the Ombre Iridiscent Eyeshadows and they never fail to impress me. I love the beautiful cream-to-powder formula that glides on the lid with ease, and they each have a gorgeous light shimmer too.

Silver Green is one of four new shades in this range, including Silver Ivory, Silver Pink, Silver Green and Silver Plum.

clarins-instant-glow-multi-blush

The Cream Multi-Blush in 05 Rose (£18.50) is definitely another winner from this collection. This dinky little blush is small but perfectly formed, with a lightweight cream formula that’s a dream to work with. Shade 05 Rose is a pretty coral pink shade that works wonderfully well on my fair complexion to give a lovely flush of colour to the cheeks.

clarins-instant-glow-lipsticks

Clarins have also brought out four new shades of their popular Rouge Eclat Age-Defying Lipstick (£19.50) The Instant Glow collection includes: Hot Rose, Pink Blossom, Pink Cherry and Rose Praline. I have Rose Praline (above left) which is a beautiful muted rose shade, and Hot Rose, which is a bright and intense coral pink.

clarins-instant-glow-lip-perfector-plum-shimmer

And lastly the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector (£18) comes in two new shades for this collection –  Toffee Pink Shimmer and Plum Shimmer. I have Plum Shimmer, which is a beautiful mid plum shade that smells of sweet vanilla.

clarins-instant-glow-collection-swatches

You can see the lipsticks give a gorgeous semi-sheer, balmy finish. They feel moisturising on the lips and last a good couple of hours before you need to re-apply, and the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector gives a sheer glossy finish with a hint of colour.

The collection also includes a Limited Edition Natural Glow 5-Colour Eye Shadow Palette (£33.00) – which I unfortunately don’t have. It looks like a beautiful wearable palette though so I wanted to mention it too!

clarins-instant-glow-makeup

I’m beyond impressed with all of these products, Clarins have been one of my favourite brands for makeup for a long time, and they just continue to bring out fantastic, easy to use, and very wearable products, the Instant Glow collection is definitely worth checking out!

The Instant Glow Spring Makeup Collection is available now from .

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these products? I hope you enjoyed my post xxx

Charlotte Tilbury Book of Makeup Magic – Contents Revealed!

Posted on November 23, 2015

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic

Hi Guys!

So, in the name of the blog, I decided to open my Charlotte Tilbury Book of Makeup Magic Advent calendar early. This is totally for your benefit of course… 🙂 so you can see exactly what you’d be getting should you wish to purchase.

I’ve had The Book of Makeup Magic for a good few weeks now, and I must admit I did initially experience a bit of buyers remorse. I mean £150 for an advent calendar really is crazy money. So I stuffed it away in a drawer, partly so stop my feelings of guilt and partly to stop me peeking in the boxes.

I’m SO glad I’ve opened it up though, I feel much better about my purchase now – the contents are AMAZING.

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic-open

Ok so the ‘book’ opens up to reveal 12 glossy burgundy boxes. I initially thought these were drawers, but nope, they’re different sized boxes stacked upon one another.

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic-review

Each box also has the Charlotte Tilbury logo embossed in gold one one side, and the contents printed on the back.

charlotte-tilbury-advent-calendar-contents

So here are the goods! Eleven mini CT makeup and skincare products, as well as one full sized Matte Revolution lipstick. Now if you want to be pedantic, you could work it out that the lipstick is worth £23, and the mini lipstick is worth £9.66, leaving £117.34 for the rest of the products, making them £11.73 each excluding packaging.

Now if I was buying these individually, would I pay £11+ per mini product? No I probably wouldn’t to be honest. But collectively as a set, it’s such a special thing to have – wether you treat yourself or manage to get someone to buy you one, I do actually think it’s worth it.

Anyway, this is exactly what’s included –

  1. Goddess Skin Clay Mask, 15ml.
  2. Charlotte’s Magic Cream, 15ml.
  3. Wonderglow, 15ml.
  4. Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise Eye Shadow mini in On the Prowl.
  5. Rock ‘N’ Kohl mini eyeliner in Supernova.
  6. Lip Magic Balm, 5ml.
  7. Mini K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Penelope Pink.
  8. Matte Revolution Lipstick (full size) in Red Carpet Red.
  9. Super Model Body, 15ml.
  10. Take it all off Genius Eye Makeup Remover, 30ml.
  11. Multi Miracle Glow Cleanser, Mask & Balm, 15ml.
  12. Magic Night Cream, 15ml.

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic-lipstick

The full sized Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red is just beautiful. I think I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this over the Christmas period!

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic-products

Some of the products I’m most excited about trying though are the Rock ‘N’ Kohl mini eyeliner in Supernova, just because I’m a bit of an eyeliner fanatic, and it looks like such a gorgeous deep sparkly purple colour. The Lip Magic Balm because I suffer with dry lips and I’ve heard this is fantastic, and the brand new not yet released Magic Night Cream. This won’t be available to buy until January, so those that pick up the advent calendar will be some of the first to get their hands on it.

charlotte-tilbury-book-of-makeup-magic-contents

I know it was a lot of money, but overall I’m really glad that I bought this advent calendar, I can’t wait to try the products each day! I might do two mini roundups, one half way through and one at the end to let you know my thoughts on each of the products 🙂

So what do you think? Was this a good purchase? I”d love to hear your thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
