Hi Guys!

Ok so I’ve been on the wagon and off the wagon of late when it comes to my diet. Sometimes I’ve been really good, and others, well not so much. I started off really well then my anxiety flared up again, and apart from making my life difficult, it always seems to make me quite emotional and the urge to eat my worries away stronger than ever. In the last week or so I’ve started to feel so much better though, and while I’m in this positive mental zone I’m going to make the most of it and start the blogger #SlimFastChallenge!

The challenge is a 14-day trial of Slim Fast products following their 3.2.1 Plan – which includes meal replacement bars, convenient ready-to-drink shakes, meal replacement powders (so you can get creative with flavours at home) and plenty of snacks. So basically with the 3-2-1 plan you can enjoy three snacks, two meal replacement products and one balanced (600cal) meal a day, with the aim that you will gradually lose weight. Slim Fast also have lots of tasty recipes on their site to try out, to give you inspiration for your third meal of the day.

I love the fact that you can eat up to six times a day with this plan! And the Heavenly Chocolate Delight Snack Bars look amazing! Slim Fast give you the option to Create your own plan by picking the flavours you love or download their 7 day diet plan where you’ll find a week’s worth of meals and snacks planned out for you.

It’s so simple to follow, there’s no points system or calorie counting with these products – which really appeals to me. The idea is once you reach your goal weight, you can replace one meal with a meal replacement product (instead of two) to help maintain your new weight.

I’ve just started today having a shake for breakfast and lunch, and a banana for a snack and I’m feeling good! I half expected to be hungry but I’m not at all! Fingers crossed the 3.2.1 plan will work for me and help me shift some weight! Keep your eye out for my update post in a couple of weeks’ time! xxx

How I Plan To Lose 5 Stones

Posted on April 29, 2015

Hi Guys,

Ok so I feel like I’ve come to a bit of a turning point in my life. I’ve been stuck in a rut for a long time now, suffering on and off with anxiety, and eating my worries away. This negative cycle has caused me to put on five stones in about a year and a half. Yes FIVE stones – half a person. I’m carrying around an extra half person on my body every day. No wonder I’m always tired.

Basically I’m an emotional eater. I eat when I’m down, or stressed or upset. I’ve been using food as a crutch, and even though the instant gratification felt worth it, the long term effects have really taken their toll on my health and well being. I constantly feel sluggish, my get up and go has got up and gone, and my weight gain has severely affected my confidence. I feel like I’ve turned into a different person.

The main reason for all of this was my job. Without going into detail I basically hadn’t been happy there for a long time. So not so long ago I decided enough was enough, and handed in my resignation. It was super scary but I’m so glad I did it. Funnily enough I was then offerered a different job at the same company, doing a completely different role, as well as working less hours. I felt a mixture of relief, happiness, and excitement, now I can really get stuck in with my new job! This also gave me more time to focus on myself in terms of my health and fitness, as well as my blog and my other freelance roles.

I guess I kind of feel like a weight has been lifted, I’m now in a much more positive frame of mind, and I’m ready to lose this weight! Here’s how I plan to do it –

1. Drink more water. This was actually a new years resolution and I’ve been pretty slack with it. I drink a lot of tea, which I don’t think I can live without, and I know it’s dehydrating which completely defeats the purpose. So moving forward I’m just going to have a glass of water with every cup of tea I make. Simples!

2. Cut out the junk. I’ve been in SUCH bad eating habits. Hence why I put so much weight on. I’m a grazer, and I literaly snack all day out of habit. I’d buy a multi pack of doughnuts / chocolate bars / cakes with the idea that I’d have one now and again for a treat, but I’d just scoff them all in one go. I’ve now completely cut this out and I’m going cold turkey. No treats, no snacks, nothing bad at all. And I’m feeling GOOD about it!!

3. Eat healthier. Apart from cutting out the obvious junk, I want to actively eat healthier meals that will help me to feel good and lose weight. I’m going for high protein / low carbs in general, and lots of veg and greens. I’m trying out some products from Exante at the moment, so for example I’m swapping my lunch for an Exante meal or shake, and swapping out my sweet snacks for their high protein options or fruit. I also have a few bits from My Protein to try out too – I’ll have an update with how I’m getting on with these shortly.

4. Exercise. Ahh exercise. This has also been my downfall. I just wasn’t doing any – unless walking to the loo counts?? I’m now using my Wii Fit to do stepping, hardcore super fast stepping! I’m doing half an hour a day at the moment, then when I’m used to it and not so knackered I’ll make the step higher (the other half has pimped my step for me!) and eventually add wrist and ankle weights too.

(I should point out that I’ve actually done all this once before. When I was pregnant I put on 4.5 stones and I lost it all the year after, so I know I can do it again!)

5. Monitoring my progress. As well as the Wii Fit, I also recently purchased a FitBit Charge which is fantastic for keeping track of how much exercise you’re doing, it tracks your steps, your sleep patterns, your heart rate, and you can also manually input your food intake so it can count your calories. I’m really finding this is helping me too, so I’ll have a separate post on it shorty.

Ideally I’d like to lose the weight by the end of the year, but for a smaller goal I’m aiming to lose 1 stone by my birthday which is 12th June. I think this is achievable! Wish me luck xxx

Wednesday Night at Las Iguanas Norwich…

las-iguanas

Hi Guys!

On Wednesday evening I headed into Norwich to see my friend Brookie, and to visit the city’s brand new restaurant – !

I’d never heard of Las Iguanas before, but found out they’re part of a chain which has restaurants dotted up and down the county, offering authentic Latin American specialities. The latest branch of Las Iguanas has literally just opened up on 10th November at Riverside in Norwich (next to Nando’s) The extensive menu is designed ‘to bring authentic South America to every table, every day’ and it reflects the diverse mix of Spanish, Portuguese, African and native Latino influences that make up South American culture.

All dishes are cooked freshly to order and Las Iguanas prides itself on using only the freshest, highest quality produce from the best British suppliers, lovingly combined with carefully sourced authentic ingredients from around the world. It sounded right up my street!

Firstly I thought I’d show you a little pre going out selfie! I was planning on wearing my gorgeous new Imany Oriental Print Kimono from Blue Vanilla via EtailPR. I was over the moon when this arrived, it’s such a pretty garment and the colours are super festive which I love! I put it on ready to wear to visit Las Iguanas but decided not to wear in out the end as I had visions of dipping the fringing in my dinner and getting covered in food!! Ha ha! 😀

We arrived at Las Iguanas and were seated. After looking at the amazingly vast menu for quite a while we decided to share three plates of tapas for startes – Calamares – whole baby calamari, sliced & coated in crisp crumb cassava, with creamy aioli. Gambas – massive whole prawns, split & cooked in a garlic, lemon & chilli sauce, served with ciabatta, and Pato Taquito – rich shreds of roast duck & caramelised onion rolled in a flour tortilla & char-grilled, with a spicy cranberry salsa. I can’t even tell you how good these were!

las-iguanas-food

For my main mean I had The Extraordinary Xinxim – (pronounced zin-zim) This was lime chicken in a crayfish & peanut sauce with spring onion & garlic rice & fine green beans. It also came with sweet plantains, I’ve never had them before and now I love them! Brookie had Camaro De Calabaza – which was baked butternut squash with peeled prawns in a mild spiced tomato & melted cheese sauce and served with garlic rice.

las-iguanas-dessert

For dessert I had an amazing chocolate cake and Brookie had some crazy doughnut things with dipping chocolate and caramel. Sorry I don’t have the dessert menu so I can’t show off with the fancy menu names and descriptions for this course! 🙂 By this point we were a bit broken, after the first two courses and three cocktails we were completely stuffed! I actually had to leave some of my amazing dessert which is completely unheard of for me!

I then thought I’d better ‘walk off’ the meal a bit, so I had a wander around and took some photos. The restaurant has been decorated beautifully with vintage and reclaimed finishes, giving the space a wonderful rustic and comfortable feel. The main restaurant is light and airy with shades of coral, sage and mustard, highlighted with vintage Latin wall art and artisan tiling.

We had such a lovely night catching up and gorging ourselves on the fantastic food the restaurant had to offer. I really can’t recommend Las Iguanas enough – the food was amazing, the staff were lovely and the service was spot on. I’ll definitely be going back there soon!

I hope you enjoyed my review! xxx

London Shopping Haul!

shopping bags

Well hello!

Happy Monday all! I thought it was about time I updated you on what I actually bought on my girl’s day out in London. You may have noticed I was saving all the juicy details for another post! I can’t believe It was almost a month ago now that I went! As it was a special birthday treat for us all, I did end up spending a fair bit! (oops)

london shopping haul

So this is my little haul!

I bought these silver chunky  from Topshop, and a couple of necklaces. I love Topshop for shoes and jewellery but often don’t splurge as they can be pretty expensive, and often their shoes don’t fit me very well (due to me being an awkward size 5.5) These have buckles on top and around the ankle though so they fit like a glove, they were the last pair in the shop, so it was obviously meant to be! I also saw this amazing Mermaid Makeup Bag and it instantly caught my eye so I had to buy it. I’m pretty sure it’s made of real mermaids…

In Selfridges where we spent most of our afternoon, I paid a visit to the Fragrance Lab where I picked up an amazing bespoke perfume, and I also took a good look around the Food Hall for some gifts for my other half and little boy Fred. I bought Ollie some special chilli crisps and ‘Beyond Insanity’ chilli sauce, as he’s into that sort of stuff. And Fred had a big box of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans.

I just realised I forgot to show my H&M purchase – a Wraparound Skirt, which was definitely my bargain of the day at only £3.99! So that’s my spending done for a while now… (yeah right, until next time)

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Lokum Istanbul Candle & Turkish Delight

Posted on June 1, 2014

lokum istanbul

Hi Guys!

I hope you’ve had a fab weekend so far! Today I have some gorgeous goodies to show you from Lokum Istanbul. The lovely guys there offered to send me one of their candles and a box of Turkish delight to review 🙂

If, like me, you hadn’t previously heard of Lokum Istanbul, the main philosophy of the brand is to bring back the delights, flavours, knowledge and beauty of offering gifts and treats of Ottoman-Turkish culture to modern life. They offer gifts including Turkish Delights, Akide Candies, Fragrances, and Candles.

I received an Eve’s Fig Candle, and a box of Turkish Delight. Both arrived in stunning top quality packaging, they would really make fantastic gifts. The candle is large and has two wicks, and comes housed in a tin with a lid. It has a lovely delicate scent.

At the time of taking the photos I hadn’t opened the Turkish Delight as I wanted to save it for a special occasion. There was no occasion in mind as such, it’s just such a special product I didn’t want to just scoff it willy nilly! Since then I have opened it up – my previous only experience of turkish Delight is the Cadbury’s kind, in the purple wrapper! So I didn’t really know what to expect with this. It couldn’t be more different! The box contained large chunks covered in icing sugar powder, the flavour was delicate, almost floral, with a distinct hint of spice. It’s really lovely and I’m savouring every piece!

If you’re looking for an unusual gift for someone special, I’d definitely recommend you check out Lokum Istanbul 🙂 xxx

Skittles Vodka – Taste The Rainbow!

Posted on May 19, 2014

skittles vodka

Hi Guys!

As you can tell I’ve got something a little different for you today, I’v been making my own Skittles Vodka! If you haven’t heard of it before, just look at the picture above, it literally is as simple as chucking a load of skittles in some bottles and topping up with vodka, simples! 🙂

skittles vodka ingredients

All you need is:

  • Four large bags of Skittles
  • One litre bottle of cheap vodka
  • Five clear bottles with lids
  • A pair of tights (these will be disposed of at the end)
  • A funnel and a jug

separated skittles

Firstly, you need to separate all the Skittles into different colours,

how to make skittles vodka

Put each colour into each bottle and top up with vodka. The fact that this cheap vodka smells and tastes like nail polish remover is irrelevant, when you’re done no-one will ever know!

flavoured vodka

Give the bottles a shake and you’ll see the Skittles instantly start to dissolve. Basically the vodka breaks down the Skittles and strips out the flavour, this process also leaves a by-product, of which I have named ‘scuzz’. The scuzz will float to the top of the bottle as it is essentially the vegetable fats (hydrogenated palm kernel oil) and whatever else the skittles are made of. You’ll need to give the bottles a vigorous shake at least once a day to help the Skittles dissolve fully.

skittles rainbow vodka

After a few days the Skittles will be completely gone and you’ll have a nice layer of coloured scuzz floating on top of your vodka. You need to get rid of this, the easiest way is just to stretch some tights ove a funnel and use this as a sieve. Try not to touch the scuzz if possible as this stuff is completely gross, it might look fun and smell nice but it has the consistency of lard, and will stick to your skin like grease. Actually go on, touch it, I dare you. You’ll see what I mean!! Ewww.

skittles scuzz

(FYI – close up scuzz) Looks harmless enough right? Do not be deceived! This stuff is evil!

rainbow vodka

So that’s it! Once you’ve removed the scuzzy Skittle lard you have five gloriously flavoured vodka drinks ready for consumption! Drink with a mixer though, oviously, like lemonade. You can see a bit of the scuzz did slip through in some of mine, especially the red – I’d recommend doubling up the tights when straining to prevent this. Lesson learned for next time hey! I’m also going to get some more vodka to dilute these down a bit so they’ll last longer I think. Just be warned though, this will make you realise the type of ingredients sweets are made out of, and may possibly put you off them for life. But on the side you will literally taste the rainbow with these amaze drinks – what could be better than Skittle flavour alcohol!? I’m saving these for a friends party where she will no doubt be wowed and amazed by my beverage inventiveness! 😀

I hope you enjoyed my post xxx
