Stila In The Light Palette | Review

Posted on October 23, 2014

Hi Guys!

Ok so did I really need another palette?

Need is rather a strong word I think. I know I just bought a shedload (I said shed) of Anastasia palettes but I just couldn’t resist this when I saw it in a blog sale. I’ve seen the Stila In The Light palette a few times now on other blogs and I always mentally added it to my wish list – the colours just look so gorgeous! And with a mid range price tag of £25 it wasn’t quite cheap enough to ‘just buy’ on a whim, and I’d never really actually needed it so I never bought it. But then when I saw someone selling it ‘lightly used’ for £18 including postage, well I jumped at the chance and bought it straight away. I do like a bargain I do!

The In The Light palette is so pretty and so wearable. You’ve got ten neutral shades in there to play with, as well as an eyeliner, in a handy slimline palette.

There are a good mix of matte and shimmer shades included, with four mattes and six shimmers. I haven’t really got a bad word to say about these shades, the only one that didn’t stand up to the rest though is Bliss from the top row, this shade didn’t come out too well and seemed to be lacking in pigmentation compared to the rest. Matte shades such as Bliss are notoriously more powdery and less pigmented than shimmers, no matter what the brand. That said though, just look at the black! Ebony is a super rich, deep black, and it’s a matte, I’ve got no complaints there! The shimmers really are fantastic too, they’re super buttery soft and I had no problems with application or blending.

This is my first experience of Stila products and I’m really impressed, overall the shadows are really good quality with little to no fallout. I’ve also heard the Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadows are pretty good, so I might look at these next 🙂

I’d love to hear if you’d recommend any Stila products for me to try?

Delilah Cosmetics Foundation & Lipstick | Review

Posted on October 22, 2014

Wel Helloooooo,

If you’re a regular reader – which I hope you are – you probably saw I posted the other week about a brand new luxury cosmetic brand, Delilah. Well I now have a couple of their gorgeous products to try out! And they. Are. Gorgeous…

First up is the  in Shell, £36.00.

Time Frame is a fluid foundation that blends perfectly with the skin, leaving an effortlessly flawless finish. The light, buildable coverage has a subtle luminosity and a velvety texture. Vitamins A and E work as powerful antioxidants to prevent against environmental damage while a blend of peptides helps to prevent signs of ageing. Time Frame contains a broad spectrum SPF 20 for everyday protection.

The Time Frame foundation comes in a tube with a pump – I do love a foundation with a pump to cut down on mess and spillages, and the shiny rose gold lid really makes the packaging look high quality. The foundation itself is medium coverage and has a lovely satiny finish. The colour I have is Shell, which is slightly darker than my skin tone and gives me a hint of colour that my dull skin really lacks at the moment. I’m so impressed with this foundation, it gives a gorgeous natural glowy finish that lasts all day.

And now onto the lipstick!

 in Grace £24.00.

Colour Intense is a luxurious lipstick formulated to provide a soft, creamy feel with a silky matte effect. It is enriched with spherical polymers that provide a velvety feeling for easy glide-on application and vitamin E as a powerful antioxidant. Colour Intense melts onto your lips that lasts for hours.

The Colour Intense Cream Lipstick comes in a gorgeous cylindrical pewter case with a matte finish. You can clearly see the Delilah logo in shiny rose gold, and on the inside the lipstick housing is also rose gold. I’ve gotta say this is some of the chicest packaging I’ve ever seen!

The lipstick itself has the Delilah logo imprinted in the bullet – for some reason my lipstick has a nick out of the point though, please disregard this as it shouldn’t look like that! This lipstick in Grace is a pretty, easy to wear clean mid-tone pink. It has such a gorgeous creamy formula that gives a beautiful satin finish.

I know they’re expensive but I can’t tell you enough how much I’m in love with both of these products, I think Delilah is definitely going to be a beauty brand to watch this season!

I’d love to hear your thoughts? I hope you enjoyed my review xx

Professional Gel Nails at Home with NYK1

Posted on October 21, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’ve never really been a ‘lets go to the salon and get a mani’ type. It always seems like a real luxury and expense, where I could use the money for other things such as makeup! Ha ha! I did, however have my nails done in a local salon for my wedding last year, the whole ‘gel’ thing was a brand new concept to me. I was impressed by the process, and even more by the staying power of the polish. My salon mani did not budge, at all. It didnt peel and eventually started to grow off. It got to a point where I either had to have it removed or re-done, and it turned out that both cost pretty much the same price (sneaky) so I decided to remove it myself in the end. The nails cost £25 to be done, then £20 to be professionally removed or £25 to be removed and re-done. So you’re looking at basically £25 a month to have them done continuously. This is where NYK1 come in. They are a fabulous new company that offer everything you need to get the perfect professional salon manicure from the comfort of your own home, and once you’ve bought the kit, you can buy whichever polishes you like – just think of the savings!

NYK1 kindly sent me a kit with everything I needed to get going – it included the same products as what salons use so I knew it was going to be top quality!

The kit includes everything you see in the image above –

  • Acetone Remover
  • Nail File
  • Base Coat & Top Coat
  • Cuticle Sticks
  • Lint Free Wipes
  • Prep&Shine Sticky Residue Remover
  • Nail Buffer

As well as a large UV light lamp shown below –

I got to choose two nail colours to go with my set, so I went with Fudge, a pretty beigy brown shade and Helena, a mid toned purple. The set comes wit full instructions for applying the polish, which are really straight forward and easy to follow.

Above is after one coat – the instructions advise a minimum of two coats of polish, but you can build them as much as you see fit to get your required finish.

The Helena shade of polish needed three coats for full opacity. You literally put the polish on, ‘cure’ under the light for 2 minutes and repeat until you’ve built up the coverage, easy! I couldn’t quite get used to the fact that the nail polish was instantly dry at the end, I’m used to flapping my arms around for half an hour!

I really like this colour with my gorgeous Coast bracelet from  which I haven’t had a chance to wear yet! 🙂

The final test is to see if my polish lasts the advertised 14 days, fingers crossed! I’ll keep you posted 🙂

You can purchase complete kits from as little as £64.95 from

I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any pro nail products at home and how you got on? I hope you enjoyed my review xxx

Autumn Accessories Update!

Posted on October 20, 2014

Hi Guys!

I’ve been attempting to tidy up my house and my ever growing stash of ‘stuff’ when I kind of noticed I’ve had a sudden influx of new autumnal accessories! So I thought it was about time I updated my wardrobe and put my summer bits and pieces away to make room for my gorgeous new things which currently have nowhere to live. Cue box packing of strappy sandals and vest tops all weekend! Read on to hear about my lovely new things…

First up are these gorgeous Melissa Virtue Studded Flock Pumps from Logonstyle. They’re flat pumps which always get my vote as they’re super comfortable. They have a faux suede ‘flocked’ finish with gold pointed studs and I love that they’re simple enough to wear with a multitude of outfits, without being plain at all. Oh and did I mention they also smell of bubblegum?? No really, Melissa shoes are all scented, how cool is that! Logonstyle have loads of awesome designer pieces, and they have a sale on too right now so make sure you check them out!

Next I have a gorgeous Black Trellis Print Canvas Bowler Bag from Landsend. This is smaller than my previous go-to every day bag, which is actually a good thing as I often found myself carrying around junk I didnt realise I had. Only the other day I decided to sort out my bag and found two cans of diet coke rolling around at the bottom – I wondered why it was so heavy! This bowler style bag is surprisingly spacious, and it’s also made of coated canvas so it’s easy to clean too.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to win this gorgeous Fiorelli Emilie Claret Red Matinee Purse on Twitter! YAY! Fiorelli had a giveaway on where ten winners would get their hands on this purse, and I was chosen! Amazing! I’m in love with the claret red shade, it’s so gorgeous and perfect for this season. This purse is also pretty big, which is exactly what I need as I usually keep a pen and chewing gum in my purse as well as other bits and pieces. I think this may end up replacing my old and trusty Lady Dior wallet.

And lastly this blue leather Ashiana Statement Leather Cuff with Studs – this was originally £30 then down to £8 in one of the many ASOS sales, what a bargain! I love anything with studs and spikes, and with this being real leather, and the studs being very similar to those on my Balenciaga bag, it has a definite luxe feel. Also not forgetting my ‘Fake’ watch from ASOS too, this was only £5 so another great bargain! I’m not really a wearer of watches, but I love them as accessories and I reckon this will be sported on my wrist for the rest of the season!

So there we have it, out with the old and in with the new. I’d love to hear if you’ve treated yourself to any new accessories for Autumn?

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

Lands’ End Launch at House of Fraser Norwich!

Posted on October 18, 2014

Hi Guys!

I was so excited a couple of weeks ago to be invited to the brand new launch of  at House of Fraser in Norwich! Unfortunaltey on the evening I was supposed to go, Fred was poorly so I couldn’t actually make it. I still wanted to tell you all about the evening though (as reported back to me) as I should have been there.

Lands’ End offer a large range of quality clothing and homewears with a guarantee that if you’re not happy with something you can return it AT ANY TIME. These products have a lifetime guarantee, if you’re not satisfied you can return for a refund or replacement whenever you like. I can’t think of any other company that offers this! Read their famous story about somebody purchasing and also returning a London taxi ! Amazing!

Anyway back to the event! It took place in Cafe Nero in House of Fraser, and was hosted by celebrity stylist Helen Boyle. Helen picked out a selection of Lands’ End garments and spoke about the key trends within the collection including rooted affair, monochrome and jeans wear. She showed the attendees how to style Lands’ End coats and jumpers and how to mix and match and coordinate  items together. She also presented a selection of shoes and other accessories such as scarves that you can accessorise with any outfit.

I’ve also been quite ill lately so I haven’t actually been into the city for a long time, I’m definitely going to check Lands’ End out next time I’m there though, and hopefully stock up on some winter essentials!

I hope you enjoyed my post! xxx

My Current Budget Dry Skin Saviours

Posted on October 17, 2014

Hi Guys!

If you’re a sufferer of dry skin like me, you’ll know that as the weather gets colder your skin KNOWS, and it doesn’t like the change in temperature one little bit. Skin becomes dryer, irritated and more sensitive, and requires a whole new set of products to tackle the problems that the colder weather brings. So with this in mind I’ve put together some my favourite purse-friendly skincare saviours for those with dry skin…

(£13.60) – Keeping your skin moisturised really is key. If you’re like me and you’re a bit lax with your skincare regime (sorry), make sure you at least use a daily moisturiser. I’m loving this Natio Daily Moisturiser at the moment, it’s lightweight so it’s perect for every day wear, it has a non-greasy formula that helps protect skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, and it’s enriched with organic rosehip oil, lavender and lemon to leave skin hydrated, soft and smooth.

Mary Elizabeth Juniper & Jojoba Hand Cream (£9.50) – And while your at it, don’t forget your hands! We use our hands all the time, they are one of the most active parts of the body, but do we look after them? Well I don’t. I’m a handcare novice. It’s never really been something I thought about until now. I’ve recently started using this Mary Elizabeth hand cream and it really is working wonders for my tired old hands. Nurturing Juniper Oil soothes skin, whilst Jojoba Oil has antiseptic properties and helps to retain moisture. Other active ingredients include Calendula Oil which calms and promotes suppleness for youthful looking hands.

(£2.69) – My lips are literally a sore point for me most of the year round, so come winter I like to up my lip care game. This Carmex Lip Balm lives in my makeup bag for relieving dry lips on the go, and it really does work wonders. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the product comes in a pot, so you have to stick your finger in to apply. I can live with it though!

(£4.00) – If you’re susceptible to dry patches on your skin that require a little extra TLC than what your regular moisturiser can offer, get some of this Anatomicals Dry Relief Balm on and let it work it’s magic. High Noon For The Prune is a natural remedy for eczema and extremely dry skin. The formula includes all-natural ingredients and features the amazing healing power of the Cocus Nucifera Extract and Gardenia Tahitensis. This stuff will really soothe the driest skin, and it can also be used on sunburn, rashes, and minor scrapes and burns. It’s suitable for children too which is super handy, so this is definitely a handbag essential for me.

(£9.95) – This is one of Weleda’s oldest products, originating from 1926. A product that stands the test of time like that really says something to me! Weleda Skin Food is a nourishing and hydrating treatment for the whole body, especially hands, feet and elbows. It’s is a deep-penetrating replenishing skin repair cream for skin that is dry, flaky and in need of extra care. Made with organic sunflower seed oil, and extracts of wild pansy, chamomile, calendula and revitalising rosemary extract to perk up tired skin, it’s a great rescue remedy for lack-lustre or generally undernourished complexions.

I hope this post has been useful, and please let me know if you’ve tried any of these products! xxx

NEW Makeup Revolution Atomic Lipsticks! | Review

Posted on October 16, 2014

Hi Guys!

It seems like not a week goes by without another brand new release from Makeup Revolution. I remember when they started they promised they’d be offering regular new products and they weren’t wrong! My latest Makeup Rev fix arrived in the form of a set of brand new .

The Atomic collection includes five lipsticks in shades of purple, bright red and green. There’s no doubt these are an intentional release due to the impending Halloween holiday. I love that Makeup Revolution are bringing out these more ‘daring’ product shades – sure metallic green isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love that they bring something different to the table. It kind of makes me think they’re picking up where Illamasqua left off, almost like a budget version of Illamasqua, bringing more risqué shades and products to the high street. And this is why I love them 🙂

First up we have Magnificent. This is a beautiful high shimmer lavender purple. It’s quite an unusual shade, I’ve racked my brains and I can’t think of any other lipsticks this could compare to. This is probably the most wearable colour out of the set.

Next is Make It Right, this is a deep intense purple again with a shimmer finish. You know I love my purples! This is such a deep, highly pigmented colour, it’s not for the faint hearted!

Next is Ruby, this is a bright red with a hint of pink. It has a clean cream finish and though the lipstick bullet looks a true red, it definitely has a pinkish tone in there. It’s a lovely bright colour and perfect for a statement lip.

Next is Make Me Tonight. This appeared to be a very deep purple, but when applied it has more of a berry / brown tone to it. It’s slightly sheer, which makes it more wearable as the colour isn’t so heavy.

And lastly Serpent. This is an amazing high shimmer deep green shade. Would I actually wear this? I’m not so sure, but if you like experimenting with makeup, or your looking for some devilishly dark colours for Halloween, this should be right up your street!

So what do you think about these lipsticks? I think they’re perfect for Halloween!

The Atomic Lipsticks are available from  for £1 each.
